Exceeded Expectations - Highly Recommended

My family (2 adults, 2 girls age 5 and 9) stayed at Cro Bique for 1 week in late June 2015 and found it to be an exceptional home away from home. We absolutely loved staying there and hope to return in the future. The owners Gabriella and Ofer are very friendly and helpful, it is situated just a short walk into town but also in a relaxing farm-like setting, it is spacious and well organized and equipped and has comfortable beds. These comments are consistent with those already posted here. Here’s a bit more about our specific experience and how Cro Bique exceeded our expectations.

The week that we stayed was extremely hot. There were 3 days in which the temperatures rose about 100 degree F and we were concerned that this was going to be an issue. Despite the heat, the house stayed cool, thanks to the shutters that kept the sun and the heat out during the day and the fans in each room. Gabriella and Ofer recommended places to swim and they were spot on. The kids had a great time swimming in the Dordogne during the hottest days. The deck at the front of the house was one of our favorite features. After about 4pm each day (June) the deck was in the shade, which allowed us to eat out dinners outside and relax in comfort, away from the sun.

We cooked all of our own meals during the week. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking a wide range of meals, from roasted chicken to pasta, to duck legs and sausages from the butcher. In addition, there is a barbeque outside that we used during the hottest 3 days. It worked great and (after 4pm) was also situated in the shade, making for a lovely time outside with the family.

The kids loved the area. They could walk up the hill behind the house to explore the gardens or walk down in front of the house to the hay fields that were cut and bundled during our stay. They loved having the freedom to roam around and my wife and I liked that we could easily see them from the deck wherever they went.

Finally, we found Beynac to be a great place to stay. One feature that you won’t find in the guidebooks is that the ‘area of commerce’ that is about a 15 minute walk (4 minute drive) from Cro Bique has a bakery, a butcher, and a small grocery shop that we found to be exceptional. The pastries we had at the bakery were the best we had in France and the meat we got from the butcher was also the best we had in France.

It was our favorite week of a long trip and I highly recommend it.
