Vieussan Holiday Rental Villas, Gites and Apartments

Vieussan is a commune in the Hérault department in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. At the confluence of two mountains, the town of Vieussan is 107 metres high and is situated on an oxbow in the River Orb. Resting on a hillside, surrounded by cliffs and steep rocks, Vieussan dominates a landscape of vineyards. With its pretty stone buildings, and ancient streets, this centre of the village isn’t accessible by car. However parking is conveniently available at the entrance of the village.

When you stay in a Vieussan holiday rental villa, be sure to go to the village’s tower and take in the views. There’s also the opportunity to idle amongst the terraces of the village which are decorated with old varieties of roses.

Rent a self-catering holiday home in Vieussan, France and enjoy several hiking trails, including one that leads to the Tour du Pin built in the 12th century. Back in the village itself, when you want to relax, you’ll be tempted by local wines including St Chinan AOC and Coteaux du Languedoc.

There are plenty of things to see when renting Vieussan self catering holiday accommodation. Nearby, Olargues is on the banks of the Jaur River, and forms part of the 'Parc naturel régional du Haut-Languedoc'. It is almost encircled by the river and there are various bridges pretty bridges to amble across. One of which is an attractive 3-arched bridge dating back to the 12th century, called the Pont du Diable, or devil’s bridge, apparently because it was the site of transactions between the devil and the villagers. From here the town is entered through a medieval stone arched gateway.

Roquebrun is also within easy travelling distance of Vieussan. A charming little town, also in an attractive setting on the River Orb. Once upon a time a grand castle stood poised above the village - but now all that remains is one solitary tower, La Tour de Guet Carolingienne. To enjoy Roquebrun at its best - enter via the arched bridge across the Orb, and then spend some time wandering uphill through the narrow streets of the village.
