Ribérac is a commune in the Dordogne department in Aquitaine in south-western France. The commune is situated by the Dronne river and is enclosed by an intimate, hilly countryside of woods, hay meadows and hilltop villages. Riberac is 30km downstream from Bourdeilles and is in the northern part of this popular French destination. Riberac’s Friday market is reputedly the biggest market in Perigord. The town is also renowned for its Fois Gras - a delicacy that must be sampled when staying in your Riberac holiday rental cottage!

The Place National is the point from which you can explore Riberac’s churches, first up -the Eglise Notre-Dame. This church was built in the 1930s in the romano-byzantine style reminiscent of the nearby cathedral of Perigeux. It’s impressive to see when you visit Riberac, it boasts multiple domes and separate tower. Then there is also the 12th century Collegiale Notre-Dame.

When you rent self-catering holiday accommodation in Riberac, visit also the Hotel de Ville - a lovely residence built in the 19th century and now the. The Palais de Justice and the Office du Tourisme are also located in impressive buildings.

There are two main attractions in the surrounding area of Riberac - the large forest (the 'Foret de la Double') and numerous Romanesque churches in the surrounding villages. Churches to visit include the church at St Privat des Pres: this is one of the most attractive churches in the Perigord. It is a fortified church and was an integral part of the defences in the region.

There are also Romanesque churches at Bourg du Bost, Festalemps, Saint Aulaye and Aubeterre sur Dronne – ideal for when you stay in a holiday rental gite in Riberac, France.

Riberac is also an ideal spot for exploring the surrounding northern area of the Dordogne. Local villages also worth a visit when you stay in Riberac include Lusignac, it boasts stunning views, a medieval church and a chateau. Don’t miss Aubeterre sur Dronne, with its own underground church carved into rock – unsurprisingly it’s one of the ‘most beautiful villages of France’.

Travelling to your self-catering Riberac rental cottage; Bergerac and Angoulême are the nearest airports. At Bergerac; Ryanair, Flybe and Jet2 offer year round direct services to and from the UK. Angoulême offers flights with Ryanair. Do check for seasonal variations in the timetables. Nearby Perigueux operates a local train service to Limoges from where you can take a train to Paris (note not TGV). Journey time is approximately 6 hours. From the northern France ferry ports, the journey time by car is approximately 7 hours (note this is without breaks).

The weather in this part of South-West France is stunning – long hot dry summers, spring and autumn tend to be a milder version of summer. Winters are mild with temperatures rarely dipping below freezing.
