Pontrieux is found in the Côtes-d'Armor department in the Brittany region of north-western France. A visit to Pontrieux means stepping into an extraordinarily typically pretty Breton village. Its name is derived from Pont being French for bridge – literally "bridge over the Trieux." In fact since the fifteenth century the river and the village were an active part of trade in the local area.

When you stay in self catering accommodation in Pontrieux don’t forget to visit the famous lavoirs! Historically, each of Pontrieux’s bourgeois homes had its own laundry area or lavoir. Today these lavoirs have been fully restored and every summer between spring and autumn can be viewed on a boat trip – where they each decked out in a stunning array of flowers.

There is also a steam train which connects the neighbouring town of Paimpol with Pontrieux each summer. It stops on the shores of Trieux, as part of the experience one can also try delicious local crepes and cider!
