Frequently Asked Questions about using the Rent-in-France
property directory to find your dream French holiday rental ...

   Q: What does Rent-in-France offer ?

Rent-in-France is an easy-to-use website which advertises holiday homes for rental, all over France. The adverts on the site are created and managed by the property owners. Holidaymakers book direct with the property owner or the person responsible for the property who is always best placed to answer questions about holidaying in that location.

Q: How do I search for my ideal holiday property ?

  • Search by location - Holidaymakers can search for an area in France by clicking on the map OR by searching through the drop down list of regions and departments. Alternatively, If you are unable to find where you want to go using the drop down location box, you can enter a town or village name in the "keyword" field. Then click the "search now" button and it will display all the properties on Rent-in-France in that particular area of the country.
  • Search by property type - select any type of property from ski chalets, gites, houses and apartments to villas, bungalows, mobile homes and B & B`s.
  • Search by group size - Select by the number of people that you need the property to accommodate, to help find the ideal home for your sized party.
  • Advanced searching - Use the range of tick boxes to help you find properties that fit your requirements, from those with a swimming pool and "child safe" to those with mountain views or near a beach?

Finally, if you are looking for a last minute bargain or special offer, then you may wish to check out the special deals section on the homepage. Once you have found a property that you are interested in, you can contact the owner of the property directly by clicking on the "contact owner" link on their listing page and sending an enquiry to their private email address. Alternatively, you may phone them if they have a number displayed.

Q: How can I tell when a property is available ?

Our property listing pages show an Availability Calendar which details when the property is 'available' and when it is 'booked'. To view the calendar, click on the 'Availability Calendar' link. Any dates marked in green are available, those in red are booked.

Q: How do I find out more information about the property?

If you want any more information about a property, fill in the contact form at the bottom of the advert page and email the advertiser directly. Most advertisers also display a phone number in the 'Contact details' box at the bottom of the page. It's a good idea to chat to them in person - so do feel free to give them a call.

Q: Is there anything I can do to make sure the advertiser is genuine?

  • Try to speak to the advertiser on the phone before confirming a booking. Most advertisers on Rent-in-France will have a contact number. If they do not, then perhaps email them requesting one so that you may speak to them directly to discuss any queries/questions you may have before making a final decision about your holiday arrangements.

  • You may choose to ask the owner for a list of testimonials from past visitors, and their contact email addresses so that you can talk to their previous guests about their experience at the property.

  • Make sure you have full contact details for an owner including their address.

  • Try doing some further online research about them and their rental business on the internet. Perhaps try a Google search for references to this owner or other websites they may run adverts with.

  • Ask for a Booking Contract which clearly spells out their terms and conditions. Advertisers should inform you of all the necessary information about their terms and conditions, including payment terms, legal/insurance obligations and cancellation terms.

  • Be very wary of paying for your holiday by untraceable methods of payment such as using a wire transfer company e.g. Western Union / MoneyGram. Make sure that you are paying the advertiser directly or an established agent.

  • Most advertisers request a deposit of up to 30% at the time of booking, and the remaining balance and security deposit up to 8 weeks before the start of the letting. If you are requested to pay the full amount up front, then you may wish to think twice!

  • We continuously encourage our owners to accurately describe their properties and to act in a professional manner when dealing with Holidaymakers. We will always investigate any report implying that this is not the case. We encourage anyone to feel free in contacting us about any complaint they may have with an owner. However, whilst we request our advertisers to provide accurate information and act with best practice, we can only publish adverts in good faith. We do not own, manage or inspect any of the properties listed and therefore cannot warrant any of the advert details. Rent-in-France accepts no liability for losses arising from reliance upon this information made by any advertiser on the site. If any holiday-maker does have a valid complaint, then Rent-in-France still reserves the right to suspend any property listing from the site.

Q: What if I ask the owner a question about the property but don`t get a reply ?

If an advertiser has not replied to your email within 48hrs, you should double check that you input the correct contact information when emailing them, or you can search for a contact number on their listing page to call them direct. Failing this, you are welcome to contact us at Rent-in-France, and we will attempt to contact the owner for you.

   Q: How do I make a booking ?

One huge benefit with Rent-in-France is that you have direct contact with the property owners. When you have found a holiday property that you like, you can contact the owner directly, by either phoning them, or filling out the Contact Form at the bottom of their property listing or on the Shortlist Contact Form. It is important to try and give the advertiser as much information as possible about the requirements of your holiday - such as your preferred dates, size of your group, special access or safety requirements. Always include a contact phone numbers and carefully check the e-mail address you have provided for the owner to contact you on. From then on, you will correspond directly with the owner. Any booking arrangements will be made directly with the property owners, and all rental payments or deposits, or arrangements for travel or the handover of keys are between you and the property owner. Rent-in-France can accept no responsibility or liability for loss of any kind, howsoever caused.

   Q: When I want to book - Who do I pay ?

Once the property owner has confirmed price and availability, you can confirm your booking with them directly. Usually the owner will send you a booking contract with the agreed dates and price for you to sign and return along with a security deposit. Of course, booking details vary but you will normally be required to make a downpayment to secure your booking. The final payment is normally required about 6-8 weeks prior to the holiday start date.

Q: I enquired about a holiday property, but now I can't see it on your site ?

Rent-in-France may remove adverts from the site for a number of reasons. The most common reason is due to the owners request because they are already fully booked for the coming season and no longer wish to receive any more enquiries, or because they have sold the property. We may also remove adverts whilst we await a renewal subscription payment. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns of this nature.

Q: I would like to give feedback about a property - How do I do this ?

Each property advert on Rent-in-France has a 'Reviews' section that allows holidaymakers to add reviews/testimonials to a property that they have stayed at. If you have experienced a problem during your holiday we advise you to refer to the terms and conditions provided in your booking contract and refer the issue to the property owner.

Rent-in-France does not take part in the booking process and thus cannot get involved in any disputes that may occur as a result of booking a holiday through Rent-in-France.
