The town of Duras is a located in the north-eastern part of the Lot-et-Garonne department which is found in the Aquitaine region in south-western France. The town, from which the famous French author Marguerite Duras took her surname, is traversed by the Dropt river.

Duras was originally built as a walled town and founded by the English during the 100 Years War. When you stay in a Duras holiday rental cottage – a visit to the impressive Chateau de Duras is a must. Right in the town centre, the chateau can be found below the main square. Originally built as a defensive castle in the early 14th century, the castle was transformed in the 17th century into a residential castle. While you visit Duras – be sure to see the medieval clock tower and several attractive houses to enjoy.

Every Monday morning the Duras market attracts sellers from farms around the area, as well as buyers from much further afield, all keen to sample the excellent local produce, brought fresh to town.

Driving from northern France’s ports is on average a 10 hour journey – without breaks. The A20 auto-route is extremely handy directly from Paris to Cahors.
