Saint-Jean-de-Monts is a commune in the Vendée department in the Pays de la Loire region in western France. This charming seaside town is situated in the west of the department, between Notre-Dame-de-Monts and Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez. It is split in two by a long plantation of pine trees, stretching from north to south along the coast. The town centre lies to the east of the cordon, while the seafront forms a lively centre to the west - a must visit when staying in a self-catering Saint-Jean-de-Monts holiday rental villa or gite.

Saint-Jean-de-Monts is renowned for its irresistible sandy beach, more than eight kilometres long. Due to its frequent low tides, it offers a great area for walkers, fishermen, and beach games. Locals are proud of the recent restoration of its seafront which now offers visitors a network of footpaths and cycle tracks, which are prettily enhanced by an array of plants, flowers and shrubs.

Since 1867, bathers have been coming to the beach at Saint-Jean-de-Monts in large numbers, and since 1892 it has been the inspiration for many artists. There is an abundance of important local cities to visit too, including Nantes and La Rochelle.

A holiday to St Jean de Monts is also ideal for cycle enthusiasts – owing to its flat terrain. There is 500 km² network of cycle paths, known as the Sentiers Cyclables de la Vendée. These paths stretch from the island of Noirmoutier in the north, south past Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie.

There's also a TGV station in Nantes.  There are frequent ferries to Roscoff, St Malo and Cherbourg.  Roscoff and Saint-Malo is a three and a half hour journey to St Jean de Monts. St Jean de Monts is located on the D38 south of the Ile de Noirmoutier in the north of the Vendee.
