Cussay is a village in the Indre-et-Loire department in the Centre region of central France. Cussay is located south of Tours, between Descartes (10 km), Ligueil (4 km) and just 19 km away is Loches with its stunning medieval city. The village of Cussay is composed of just over 500 inhabitants –when you rent a holiday cottage in Cussay, do so knowing you’re staying in a pretty little village with good access to some stunning cultural towns nearby.

The town of Descartes is located on the banks of the Creuze River. It is famous for being the birthplace of the philosopher and mathematician René Descartes (1596–1650). Descartes was renamed La Haye-Descartes in 1802 in his honor, and then renamed again to Descartes in 1967. There is a museum dedicated to him which is worth a visit when you stay in a Cussay holiday rental gite or cottage, France. Neighbouring Ligueil has numerous chateaux and churches in its vicinity and is located on the river Esves.

Loches is one of the most picturesque places in central France. A visit to this stunning town is a must when you stay in self-catering holiday accommodation in Cussay. Loches lies at the foot of a rocky eminence upon which stands the Château de Loches - the castle of the Anjou family. The chateau is surrounded by an outer wall 13 ft.(4 metres) thick and consists the old collegiate church of St. Ours, the royal lodge and the donjon.

The royal lodge, built by Charles VII of France, contains the tomb of Agnès Sorel and the oratory of Anne of Brittany. It was here on 11 May 1429 that Joan of Arc arrived, fresh from her historic victory at Orleans, to meet the king. On the right bank of the Indre, opposite the town and practically its suburb, is the village of Beaulieu-lès-Loches.

Other tourist attractions to consider when you visit Cussay include the Château du Grand Pressigny (11 km) and the Château de Chenonceau (40 km).

The nearest train station is Loches which has regular services throughout the day to Paris Austerlitz station. A change is required at Tours for this approximately 4 hour journey. Driving from Calais is a 6 hour drive (without breaks).
