Megève is a commune in the Haute-Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. Megève is best-known as a world-famous ski resort near the Mont-Blanc in the French Alps. Megeve began its development as a ski resort in the 1910s when the Rothschild family started to spend their winter vacations there. By the 1950s Megève was one of the most popular ski resorts in Europe and attracted many wealthy individuals and celebrities.

Megève's Alpine skiing area, know as the "Domaine Évasion Montblanc", comprises: Megève itself (Mont d'Arbois, Jaillet, Rochebrune and Côte 2000), Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, Combloux, La Giettaz, Les Contamines-Montjoie and Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce. The "Evasion Mont-blanc" range covers approx 445 km and includes some of the best ski slopes in Europe.

On an area of 8 km² there are 111 lifts providing access to 219 slopes totalling 445 km. The slopes are thus divided: (from hardest to easiest) 34 blacks, 82 reds, 65 blues and 38 greens. The lifts: 70 platter lifts, 31 chairlifts and 10 gondola lifts and aerial tramways.

Rent self-catering accommodation in Megève during summer months – it’s also a popular destination especially renowned for its golfing opportunities. Megeve also boasts a gorgeous medieval village complete with 13th-century church tower.

If you are flying to Megeve there is Chambery, Geneva, and Grenoble Airports all approx. one hour’s drive away. All of these airports are well served by low cost, scheduled and charter airlines from throughout the UK.

Driving to your Megeve holiday rental property from Geneva; take the A40 direction Mont Blanc/Chamonix and turn off at Sallanches. Megeve is 17 kms direction Albertville. Drive from Grenoble and Chambery, direction A 41- E712, to Annecy/Geneva/La Roche sur Foron, get on the A40 direction Mont Blanc/Chamonix and turn off at Sallanches. It's then about 17 kilometres in the direction of Albertville, to Megeve.

The TGV railway station at Sallanches is six miles away, providing a regular service from Paris and other French cities.

Megève is low in altitude, which can mean sparse snow at the start and end of the normal December-to-April ski season. It enjoys sunshine in the summer months – making it ideal for hikers.
