Boutenac-Touvent is a village in the Charente-Maritime department in the Poitou-Charentes region in southwestern France. When you visit Boutenac-Touvent you’ll discover it is just three kilometres from the impressive Gironde estuary, opposite the Medoc and in the heart of the Charente Maritime vineyard.  The village also has a restaurant in a relais hotel.

Enjoy the sandy stretches of beach are attractively interspersed with rocky headlands and cliffs. The three main beaches are called Nonnes (the main beach), Vergnes (a little to the north) and Suzac. Meschers also has a pretty little port with ample places to stop for un café. The Grottes de Regulus caves are a must-see when you stay in Boutenac-Touvent - carved into the chalky rock along the seafront, they have enjoyed a rich livelihood over the centuries.

Talmont is a pretty French village just 15 kms away. Situated on a promontory on the northern side of the Gironde estuary in Poitou Charentes – the village is officially one of the ’most beautiful villages of France.’ Talmont, rather surprisingly, was founded as an English bastide town in the 13th century and the layout of the streets now is more or less the same as it has been for the last 700 years.

Bathed by the ocean, in the sunniest area of the West, there is also the opportunity to discover other charming local villages including Royan, Jonzac and Cognac – home of the world famous brandy.

To get to your Boutenac Touvent Holiday Gite: The closest airport to Boutenac Touvent is La Rochelle Airport (76 km) – easyJet, Flybe, Jet2, Ryanair, Cityjet and Aer Lingus all operate into and out this airport. Slightly further afield are Bordeaux  (79 km) and Angouleme Airport (86 km). The nearest train station is at Royan – 25 kms away. Services to Paris Montparnasse are regular with changes at Angouleme or Niort stations. From the northern ferry ports it is an approximate 8 hour journey via car (this doesn’t include time for breaks).

The Poitou-Charentes region is renowned for having one of the most pleasant climates in France. Winters are really mild and thanks to the oceanic climate, summers are hot but not muggy.  Poitou-Charentes benefits from 2,400 sunshine hours a year and is the hottest and sunniest place of the whole Atlantic coast.
