The Grainstore provides beautiful and comfortable accommodation in a wonderful setting. The outside areas offer you a different place to relax each evening as you take in the wildlife and views of the river. Brian and Gill are there to offer advice on the area as required, and kindly provided a chilli as the supermarkets don't stock them!

Despite less than perfect weather, our stay at The Old Grainstore was great. The accommodation is ideal for a couple, quirkily kitted out, and with a very comfortable, enormous bed! The setting is absolutely beautiful, and Brian and Gill are the perfect hosts, both welcoming and hospitable. The barbecue in the courtyard has converted us both to the convenience of gas - but we also used the charcoal barbecue on the island, which has more evening sunshine. We found some wonderful walks and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the gardens. Our dog, Morse, who was kindly allowed to stay at the apartment, had a whale of a time, swimming in the river and becoming an expert on sniffing out deer, which we saw every day in the woods and fields. The immediate area is very quiet - possibly too quiet for some - but Chauvigny is walkable, has plenty of bars and a nice atmosphere. We enjoyed an incredibly relaxing holiday, which was just what we needed - if the sun had shone just a bit more, it would have been absolutely perfect!

My husband and i stayed in The Old Grainstore along with our 8 month old baby for 3 nights at the end of May. We had a lovely stay. This place is a true gem and if you are visiting this area, dont stay anywhere else. The decor of the Gite was fabulous and had absolutely everything you could want for your stay. The grounds are amazing and the location is perfect to explore the surrounding area. We were lucky to have Gill cook for us on one evening. The meal was fantastic and the setting was fabulous as we overlooked the river. Brian and Gill were great hosts and Gill left toys and baby equipment in the gite which was very much appreciated, especially by our little fellow. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone.

Friendly welcome and the owners were available for any queries or local advice. Fantastic location by the river Vienne with access to private frontage and island. We thoroughly enjoyed birdwatching and just being by the river. Accommodation is rather quirky and not very french! but clean and spacious - kitchen rather limited. The use of bikes was a useful bonus. Canoe available in the summer . Log fire was nice for cool evenings.

You can not appreciate this property from just pictures,the whole river frontage and grounds are so relaxing and wonderful to observe,walk around,fish and soak up any time of the day.The accomondation is clean,spacious enough and uniquely and tastefully decorated throughout with endless amount of areas to eat and drink any meal.The owners are always willing to help and fit in with your travel/ arrival and departure plans along with info should you require it.An excellent, truely memorable location and property.

We loved everything about this place! So pretty, spacious and relaxing. Loved spending time on the own little private island, just gazing at shooting stars late into the night, enjoying a lovely anniversary meal by the river prepared for us, sunbathing and kayaking, road trips to the nearby towns and waking up each morning to the sparkly sun on the water. Such a warm welcome, great owners and felt completely happy. Heaven on earth :)

a converted mill by the river. peaceful spot but close enough to walk to a small village for day to day needs. nearset town 5 min drive. poitiers 30 mins. quirky first floor apartment furnished in a very "non-french " way, reflecting owners far east lagacy. Huge bed, nice shower, basic but adequate kitchen. SKY tv and hi fi . Owners are british and very helpful but keep out of the way. No good for disabilties or small children. Great for 50+ looking for peace , a great evironment and to be in the real France. We`d go back!

This place exceeded our expectations: it's even better than on the pictures! The guest suite is a beautifully decorated, large open space at an absolutely stunning location. The windows offer beautiful views on the garden and the river, and a small bridge gives you access to a cute private island with many places to sit or lie down in the grass and enjoy the sound of water flowing around you. Unfortunately we only had time to stay for one night, but we would have extended our stay otherwise!
