BEYNAC

It is a medieval construction, austere, perched on the top of a limestone cliff overlooking the village on the right bank of the Dordogne. The castle has the form of an irregular quadrilateral extended to the south by a spur bastion. The severe dungeon, filled with battlements, dates from the thirteenth century. Protected on the side of the plateau by a double enclosure, the castle overlooks the Dordogne from 150 m (source Wikipedia). Beynac is the most authentic castle in the Périgord region. Dating back to the 12th century, former fortress of Richard the Lionheart, it overlooks the Dordogne valley. A unique situation that makes it one of the most beautiful castles of Périgord: hanging 150 meters above the valley of the 5 castles, it dominates a magnificent landscape that one discovers between heaven and earth from the heights of the dungeon.

CASTELNAUD THE CHAPEL

Located at the confluence of the Dordogne valley and the Céou valley that it overlooks, Castelnaud Castle faces the fortress of Beynac, its eternal medieval rival, the gardens of Marqueyssac and the village of RoqueGageac.
