Local Attractions
Visits to local vineyards can be arranged on request.
Coast/Beach:
The Mediterranean with sandy beaches is just under an hour's drive away. The best known beach is Valras Plage - a bustling place – the more quiet Serignan Plage with a tapas bar is also worth a visit. In different ports / towns along the coast you will find excellent fish restaurants and oyster bars. Don’t miss Bouzigues where oysters are farmed in the Etang de Thau.
Travel:
The nearest local airports are Beziers/ Cap d’Agde, Montpellier, Carcassonne and Perpignan which are served by low cost airlines like Ryanair and Easyjet. Alternatively you can fly to Girona in Spain (210 km) or Toulouse (200km). A car is recommended to make the best of the local sights and places of interests. Car hire is available in all airports.
St. Chinian can be reached by public transport (TGV to Beziers and then a local bus). Bicycles are for hire in St. Chinian.
Distances:
In St. Chinian you will - within easy walking distance - find bakeries, butchers, grocery, an Intermarche supermarket, news agent, banks with ATM, pharmacy, wine stores, garages etc. and several cafes and restaurants.
Nearest towns include Beziers (30km), Narbonne (35km) and Carcassonne (70km). Further afield but within driving distance are many classic areas of culture and the beautiful towns of Montpellier, Pezenas and Perpignan- to name just a few.
Further Details:
Saint-Chinian has something on offer for everyone, be it the excellent local wines, the stunning scenery, the food in the twice weekly market, the peaceful country walks, or the slower pace of life. Within a very small radius there is horse-riding, river swimming and canoeing the Orb, walks in the Haut Languedoc National Park as well as lots of sightseeing.
On Thursdays and Sundays you can buy fresh fish, meat, cheeses, fruit and vegetables from the traditional open market at the square.
