 Michael D ON June 2014

My wife, son, daughter-in-law and I rented this property for one week in June/July 2014 and wished we had stayed longer. The property is charming, on top of a hill, and very secluded. It is in a beautiful rural setting, but also close to a full range of amenities in the village of Fayence, which is 10-15 minutes drive from the house.

The house is immaculate: tastefully furnished and decorated, with artistic accents; well-maintained and fully equipped. The grounds are extensive, with a nice pool and a charcoal BBQ, which we enjoyed using. The owners, Marjie and Tony, live in the house most of the year, but relocate to their nearby apartment during rental periods. They are on hand to greet you on arrival and easy to contact if you need help or have any questions. We really enjoyed meeting them; they are very pleasant, humorous, interesting people and very helpful in ensuring you get maximum value from your stay. In our case my wife’s birthday was the day after we arrived and I wanted to arrange a glider ride for her - Fayence is a renowned center for gliding. Tony was diligent in making the arrangements with the Gliding Club in advance of our arrival, which greatly simplified the process from my standpoint. Doing business with Marjie and Tony was straightforward, and they were prompt in returning our security deposit at the end.

Fayence is a lovely village with a good selection of restaurants. We enjoyed: Table D’Yves for an upscale, but not over the top, experience; L’Auberge Fleurie for seafood; and both Strega and La Terrasse for pizza and salads. We also enjoyed the fish soup and stuffed mussels at Strega. Marjie and Tony recommended L’Echapee Belle, a small restaurant with an interior courtyard in nearby St Paul-en-Foret, which we also liked.

There are several quaint villages near Fayence, such as Mons and Seillans, that are worth visiting for a glimpse of a bygone age but we really enjoyed Tourrettes. Walking the streets was like visiting an art exhibition - local artists had integrated their creations into the architecture of the village and it seemed there was a surprise every time we turned a corner. I think the tourist office had a map outlining a walk through the village that would see every exhibit, but we opted to freelance it and nonetheless had a very enjoyable experience.

All in all, we can highly recommend this property and would certainly consider a return visit. Our thanks to Marjie and Tony for an enjoyable vacation.
