Small, but...

Small, well equipped incuding satellite TV/radio. On edge of nondescript village but within easy reach of some great countryside, interesting villages and Mont St Michel (go early or late). Avranches well worth a look and has good shops; Brecey and St Hilaire also. Villedieu les Poeles great if you like copper saucepans; Mortain has some waterfalls and several restaurants; Domfront a bit sad and struggling, but great views.

Normandy landing beaches about 2 hours away, ditto Caen (consider taking the train from Avranches at around 09.30/10.00 , v comfortable and cheap, and Caen has superb public transport).

Cottage itself has very steep stairs and quirky lighting, but great shower, excellent hot water supply, full kitchen kit, crockery etc.

Satellite TV/radio very welcome for its British Freeview coverage; also a DVD player. Wood-burning stove looks good (we didn't need it). Bed upstairs has good linen, soft mattress. Very solid outdoor furniture in small garden. Some road noise, inevitably (it's at a minor junction and there are farms and milk producers all around), but not much at night.

Cosy rather than stretch-out comfortable, but a recommendable base for exploring a not-so-well-known area. Good value.
