Being veterans of renting holiday apartments all over Europe I have to say that this is one of the better ones. There are a few things that could improve the experience: - the crockery and glassware is quite tired with chips on both. The front bedroom has no hanging space for clothes. Other than that a very spacious property with the added facility of watching English Freesat programs.

The house is very well situated on a small plateau above the small rural town of Mareuil sur Lay. From the terrace you have a stunning view over the roofs of Mareuil. All the rooms of the house, the terrace and the carport are on one level. The first bathroom has a huge bathtub, the second bathroom is barrier free. If need be you could use the house with a wheelchair. The furniture including the kitchen is new. Everything was clean and well maintained. Ian and Kate were extremely welcoming and friendly. We have already recommended the house to friends of ours. It is ideally located to explore La Vendée.

We enjoyed a lovely stay in this villa. It is spacious, well equiped, and even better than the photos. The owners, Ian and Kate were very helpful, and keen to ensure we had everything we needed. We loved the terrace, and were able to eat, and bbq outside most evenings, enjoying the stunning views. The sky tv, and wi-fi was popular too !

We visited 'Le Puy du Fou', (approx 1 hour away) which although seemed expensive initially was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us, including 3 teenagers. The bird display was just fantastic. We would go again just for that.

A reminder that boys/men need 'speedo' style costumes for the local pool. The beaches, 30 mins + drive, were lovely with the added bonus of free parking.

Would happily recommend.

We have been visiting Mareuil for years and we love this dreamy town with its river, its church and typically French bars and cafes. Now there is an up market, spacious, convenient and very comfortable town house to rent within metres of the centre. We stayed over a long weekend in June, sharing with friends and their children. The living space, which was easily big enough to accomodate every one comfortably, was fitted to a very high standard. the bathrooms are a joy and the beds are new and comfortable. Indeed everything was immaculate. We enjoyed a breakfast coffee on the terraced garden overlooking the town and later strolled down the lane to buy fruit and charcuterie for lunch, before heading off to the beach which is under an hour away. There is a pool a 10 minute walk away or you can hire a boat on the river. Parfait! Dennis and Margaret.

This lovely new townhouse is a real Tardis! Extra features worth a mention include sky TV, wi-fi and an internet telephone (making all international calls to landlines free). The kitchen is very well appointed, making it very easy and enjoyable to cook. There are local butchers, bakers and a very well stocked Intermarche all very near by. The children enjoyed the mezzanine room and regular walks into town.

The coast between la Trance sur Mer and Les Sables D'Olonne is fun to explore and the beach at les Conches is a particular treasure. A short 12 minute drive to Lucon provides good shopping, although Mareuil has a very good pharmacy and the Intermache carries most items you're likely to need. Mareuil also has a pizzaria and a restaurant overlooking the river.

The terrace is well lit and is particularly pleasant in the evenings when we often ate al fresco. There is plenty of storage and the owners, Kate and Ian are very warm friendly and full of suggestions for places to visit and things to do. They gave a full orientation on arrival and were available throughout our stay if needed.

This house is like the Tardis - small and beautifully formed on the outside and wow! ENORMOUS when you walk inside.

It was excellent and very well appointed. Comfortable and clean throughout. Two bathrooms so no queueing. We enjoyed the terrace.

Realising we were short of wine just before dinner was not a problem - quick run to one of the four restaurants and bars nearby (the bar said yes we could buy a bottle to takeaway).

A brilliant base for families and friends.
