The house is set in a beautiful spot. The nearby château is very striking, and you travel down a quiet country land until turning off to the house. We found it to be very peaceful.

The accommodation is well presented and homely. We found a well equipped kitchen and nice bathroom. The bed was comfortable too. We made use of the gorgeous log burner each evening.

Nicola showed us around the accommodation, and kindly brought us some milk, orange juice, bread and cidre. She was an extremely accommodating and friendly host. Nicola also gave us some good advice concerning the local area. We enjoyed a visit to the local market on Thursday, as well as a meal out La Licorne restuarant.

We spent the majority of our holiday exploring the region: Bayeux, Caen, the D-day beaches, Falaise (really worth visiting Falaise Castle).

We had a brilliant time at La Houssaye in September 2021

The house is characterful and comfortable- quintessentially French in its atmosphere and style. Set in beautiful countryside with lots of good walks very close by. Great for nature lovers and very unspoiled. We really enjoyed visiting the D Day landing beaches and museums which were within striking distance. The old town of Bayeaux and Mont St Michel were particular highlights.

Nicola was a wonderful host; so friendly and available for advice when needed.

A fabulous place- we hope to return!

We loved staying in ‘La Houssaye’.

From our perspective we were looking for somewhere with direct access to footpaths/tracks so that we could walk our Griffon Korthal, and preferably in a rural location but with reasonable access to a Supermarket/Boulangerie/Market.

We were also looking to source edible fungi – which we found in abundance.

This place was idyllic. No light pollution, virtually no traffic on the nearby ‘lane’ and with Conde sur Noireau about 6 miles away.

Nicola is the perfect host – invisible until you need something. The ‘gite’ has a lovely log-burning stove (with a plentiful supply of wood), large lounge space with a bathroom (with shower) and kitchen off it, and 2 bedrooms. There’s spacious car-parking immediately outside.

We stayed at le moulin in September. On arrival we were wowed by the beauty of the watermill and it's surroundings, Nicola came straight to greet us and couldn't have been more welcoming. The accommodation itself is lovely even better than the photos, with my limited mobility I found everything very comfortable and easy to use with just the step into the shower. A really pretty area of France to explore and also within comfortable reach of the D Day beaches. Whilst here we had a problem with our car which Nicola happily helped us to sort out. We had a really lovely stay and we have been visiting France for over 20 years we thoroughly recommend. Lovely fresh welcome pack. Thankyou Nicola hope to see you again Janet and Mark.

La Houssaye is a beautiful watermill in the middle of the Normandy countryside. The perfect place to unwind and recharge your batteries. Nicola, the English owner, is a lovely lady who could not do enough to make our stay perfect. The Mill is situated in a valley surrounded by woodland and pastures, it also has a stream running beside it, which we walked, seeing numerous brown trout rising. I wish I had brought my short fly rod! In the evening, sitting under the most amazing blanket of stars, listening to owls and having a glass or two of wine, made us realise this was heaven. We will most definitely be revisiting La Houssaye and Nicola.

Nicola is the most welcoming host you could wish for! The accommodation was just perfect for us, private and in the middle of the countryside, the only sounds being birdsong and the occasional sheep. This was our first motorbike trip abroad and The Watermill was a perfect location to ride out from each day to go and explore. The accommodation had everything that we needed, and very important for us - Nicola provided decent English tea bags (!!) - being English herself. Nicola's accommodation is perfect for bikers (motor and pedal), walkers, birdwatchers or just for a peaceful retreat.

The Watermill is an amazing place, beautifully situated in the heart of woodlands and forest, where the soundtrack to life is of countless birdsongs, the breeze in the trees and the flow of the nearby river. An escape from the madding crowd, where peace and nature surround and seduce you. The mill has all the facilities you need, 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a dining area, a shower and washroom. Getting provisions is a 10 minute drive away. Normandy is well known for it's WW2 history, which is why we came here, and there are plenty of sites and museums in easy travelling distance. Nicola the owner is fabulous, so welcoming, and will bend over backwards to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. We can't wait to return to visit our new friend in her beautiful watermill.

My wife and I stayed at the Water Mill for two weeks this September 2018. We have been regular visitors to France, but have never stayed in the Normandy region.

We were pleasantly surprised. The Mill is set in a wooded valley which is so quite that you can hear it. The accommodation is on one level containing a lounge come diner with a kitchen and two bedrooms. The accommodation is clean. Everything that you might need is available. If you are into peace and quiet and enjoy nature this is the place to stay. You also have numerous historical sites nearby. Nicola who owns the property and lives in the top floor of the Mill is a real gem. We arrived as strangers and felt when we left we had made a friend. The Mill is excellent value a real find.
