Nestled in the Couze valley in the Dordogne, Fontalbe is a spectacular former paper mill that has been renovated to the very highest standard. The property is situated on its own private island. It's surrounded by rivers, forests and beautiful countryside in an idyllic corner of France. Fontalbe offers luxury and relaxation in a unique setting.
There is free Wifi throughout if you still need to keep an eye on the real world outside your private island.
Fontalbe is situated only 25 minutes away from Bergerac Airport, within a five-minute drive or 35-minute walk from villages where you will find restaurants, bars and bustling markets.
Come and enjoy your very own little haven of peace, tranquillity and understated luxury with a private pool, drinks under the wisteria, star gazing and evening dining to the sound of the owls and the river flowing by your doorstep.
We hope that you share our belief that it is a special place where you can escape from your everyday life and make memories that will last forever with your family and friends.
THE MAIN HOUSE:
Fontalbe was purchased by us in September 2016. There were no walls, bathrooms or kitchens and few floors that were safe to walk on. There were no terraces and the pool was a bright blue, kidney-shaped haven for frogs.
There are six, large comfortable bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, spacious living accommodation and a modern, well-stocked kitchen where guests can gather to enjoy the very best in amazing local produce and, of course, the local wine.
You will find a large and airy space, with original beams, wooden and concrete floors as well as the original terracotta tiles in the kitchen. No compromises have been made in the quality of the furnishings and the overall finish.
We hope that you appreciate our vision of Fontalbe. We wanted to breathe life back into an old, once dilapidated building and once again bring the sounds of laughter, friends and family into her walls – we hope that you think we have achieved just this and love Fontalbe as much as we do.
THE APARTMENT - (500 Euros per week)
At one end of the main house, there is a one bedroom apartment which can provide some further flexible accommodation. It is ideal if you are travelling with older relatives, Nannies or even teenagers who would prefer their own space. It is furnished to exactly the same high standard as the rest of the house.
