Chateau Forge du Roy sits in a peaceful valley estate of 184 acres woods and meadowland, and is a few km from the Vezere valley which has 147 UN listed sites of prehistoric interest including the famous Lascaux painted caves. It is located 1km along a quiet country lane off the Perigueux - Sarlat road (D47). The rural location is perfect for hiking and cycling, and canoeing is wonderful along the Vezere from Les Eyzies de Tayac - 14 km away. Les Eyzies also has two of the most famous French museums of prehistory, a good selection of restaurants, and a number of troglodyte caves.
The Grotte de Rouffignac - 8 km - has prehistoric animal paintings, and the small town of Rouffignac 7 km has a busy market on Sundays and is the nearest for supermarket and butcher/baker.
A greater variety of shops exists at Le Bugue, the largest local town at 10km.
There is a challenging 18 hole golf course at Mortemart 10mins away.
Further afield Sarlat 30mins, Domme and Roque Gigeac are a must to visit. The Dordogne and Vezere rivers meet at Limeuil which is beautiful.
Near Belves is a hot air ballooning centre for trips above the region
