Relaxing, nice 'n easy...

It is no mistake to say that in U Castellu Adele Bozza, the owner, has probably found the most wonderful location for a house on the entire island! Of all the places we visited, not once did we say "I wish U Castellu were here instead"!! It is secluded without being isolated and is a wonderfully welcoming place to return home to after a day on the beach or sightseeing. The property benefits from an excellent elevated position which provides spectacular views across Portigliolo bay towards Ajaccio and the sunsets from the terrace are sensational. Its small breakfast terrace and large main terrace (enjoined) mean that you can eat outside in the shade or sun at whatever time of day you choose. If you are looking for a choice of 20 bars within walking distance then this place is not for you, but the house is well sited to get to all the less-explored southerly beaches and most of the better quality restaurants are only 10-15 mins away in the car. Chez Francis is in the most divine location and serves awesome fresh fish and shellfish...don't be put off by the (very!) winding dirt track road to get there....it is worth every white knuckle bend! Likewise be sure to check out the mussels at Chez Alain at Agosta Plage where for €14 you have an absolutely knockout selection of moules frites! Plage d'Argent is also a gorgeous romantic spot with a fabulous view over the bay and an excellent menu. The local restaurateurs at Chez Mico (a 5 minute stroll away) are very friendly and provide a very decent meal, with good choices of dish, including simply prepared fresh fish. Although perhaps not the most modern property U Castellu lacks for absolutely nothing, is kept very clean and well maintained and has a lovely sheltered garden, a great pool and garden furniture to spare!! The well equipped kitchen has all you need to prepare your own meals, the living room furniture is super comfortable to sink into and read in the evenings, and there are even games to play if you are feeling competitive! Adele is incredibly helpful and was ever willing to answer even our most mundane questions and was determined to do everything she could to ensure that we enjoyed our stay to the utmost. Everything in the house book was up to date and clearly Adele had spared no effort to ensure that her guests had access to as much local info as possible. I would recommend U Castellu unhesitatingly and would gladly return. We had a simply stunning holiday - thank you Adele!!

Beauteful holiday house in beauteful surroundings

Our family stayed here for one week in the beginning of July. Easy access from the airport, far enough away from Ajaccio to be a quiet place, but still not to far away from shops and restaurants. The house was just as announced, a beauteful house in beauteful surroundings, just a few minutes walk from the beach. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Regards;

Family from Norway

We were a Group of 9 friends from Norway and France who spent a memorable week in Corsica. The American owner is very well organized and attentionate and the local manager is professional and responsive, although slightly overworked during summer, which is probably unavoidable. It was very clean upon our arrival. We did not find the absence of air condition to be much of a problem. The view from the villa is even better than the photos suggest and the balcony and pool areas are splendid. We enjoyed the proximity of beaches, hiking tours (do not miss the Capu di Muru Tower!) and tennis courts.

Charming property that is well stocked and maintained. We enjoyed walking to the beach about 1 block away. Sunsets on the veranda were spectacular while the birdsong woke us in the morning. It was hard to tear ourselves away to go sightseeing.

The property is well maintained with an especially well equipped kitchen. Adele, the owner, provided great instructions, directions, and suggestions in the booklet that arrived before our departure for Europe. The layout of the villa worked well for 8 adults, but others might find the bedroom/bathroom arrangement better for 6 adults and 4 children (twin beds in one room and bunks in another). Being so close to the beach (5 minute walk) was delightful. The main road is not busy so the area is quiet. We spent several blissful evenings on the terrace watching the sunset lingering over late dinners. Everyone took their favorite breakfast beverage outside in the morning to watch the sea change with the breezes. The seating around the pool allowed those who wanted shade to remain covered while the sun worshipers could remain baked all day if they wanted. There is a little shop at the base of the street with great bread and fruit/veggies, but there are larger stores within a few minutes drive. We visited Bonafaccio via ferry, Ajaccio for an evening, and several different beaches. Our guests were charmed with Seraphim in Peri which, although it is a hard drive at night, is our favorite restaurant in the surrounding area.

We stayed at U Castellu in July with our two children.

The villa is as described, very spacious with the most amazing views over the bay, in a beautiful part of Corsica - quiet, but close enough to town / supermarket when you need. It's very much a home, ie not corporate decor, but nicely furnished, with a very well equipped kitchen. The garden is not large as the villa is on a hillside, but very private, and gets the sun most of the day.

Following high winds, there were a couple of issues, and Adele was extremely responsive and helpful, and things were remedied quickly.

The location is great, and while the local beach is nice, and quiet, we found the beaches further north had nicer sand. There's a few nice local restaurants, especially Mico's down the road, which we were very impressed with. Also, do visit the amazing patisserie about 15 mins north facing the garage, which we only discovered on our last day sadly (or happily for our waistlines).

Overall we had a great stay, and would visit again.

Our group of 8 (3 adults and 5 teen-agers) enjoyed for the third time a lovely two weeks at U Castellu. Everything was in good working order and we could concentrate on relaxing on the terrace and in the garden, enjoying the pool and the lovely view of the bay and exploring the beech and the island. In a way, U Castellu has become almost a "second home" for us. We know that everything (be it in the kitchen, in the rooms or in the laundry room) will be clean and well equipped and we appreciate Adele and her team's efficient and friendly effort.

This was the third time that my family and our friends (8 people total, of which 5 are children, including 4 15+ teens) stayed at U Castellu and it felt like coming home. The house is just the right size for our group (we could even fit in an extra kid if we had one), and the kitchen is well equipped. We had long, languorous dinners on the terrace every evening, watching the sun go down and the geckos come out.

The house itself is comfortable and breezy; it never gets too hot because of the location up on the cliff. The fact that the kids can walk alone down to the beach or the little shop for croissants is a big bonus for us, as it means adults can stay up at the house and read, lounge by the wonderful pool, or (alas) work.

From U Castellu we often venture out in different directions. Filitosa and Sartene can be reached in a couple hours in the south, and Ajaccio is about an hour or so north. There are lots of outdoor activities (e.g. an excellent zipline park and canyoning) in the Forest of Vero, about 20 minutes north of Ajaccio.

We'll keep our memories alive over the long Boston winter and hope to go back next year.

I was looking for a place which would accommodate my family from my 80 years old father to my 10 years old son. This was the perfect solution. The house is spacious, well equipped, the teenager could stay connected, the kitchen was perfect to cook for 8, the kids could play in the pool or walk to the beach. The location is both off the main traffic and close enough to have access to all shops and amenities. It is also close enough to be a base for day trip and cover most of South Corsica.

The playbook is very comprehensive and includes good suggestions for dining out. To top it, the owner is extremely responsive and very friendly.

This was just the perfect solution and definitely would come back.

This is a wonderful holiday home. It has ample room and is well appointed with all the things you'd ever need. A great barbecue. Good sized rooms. A really nice pool. And of course the views are just stunning with some of the best sunsets I've ever seen.
