The spacious newly converted gite nestles at one end of a beautiful granite barn. It offers open plan living, two bedrooms and two shower rooms, terrace and garden. Set in 25 acres of pasture and secluded woodlands offering a tranquil retreat and a haven for wildlife. This stunning undulating landscape, with warm lakes, miles of empty roads and paths is perfect for a relaxing or more active outdoor holiday.
Situated in the undiscovered region of Corrèze on the western edge of the Massif Central in France we are surrounded by the rivers, lakes and forests of the ‘Parc naturel régional de Millevaches en Limousin’. Traversed by a huge network of tracks and pathways, the moorlands, meadows, woodlands and rivers remain unspoilt.

About us
We bought the barn in 2012 and since then have been carefully and thoughtfully converting it from a cow shed to our home and the gîte.
All the work has been completed sympathetically retaining as much of the character of the barn as possible, with the highest possible quality finishes. The granite and old oak from the barn has been re-purposed and locally sourced green oak used for all the new structural work. Like the original builders we have utilised lime-based materials for the floors, the internal walls and for all the joints. An ancient method using hemp and lime mixture provides insulation as this ‘breathes’ and lets moisture move in and out of the walls and floors. Under-floor heating throughout ensures it is comfortably warm and cosy in the cooler months.
We are as environmentally friendly as possible. Solar panels and a huge wood boiler power the heating and hot water. The logs for this come from our own woods. Our ‘potager’ and polytunnel enables us to be self sufficient in seasonal vegetables all year round. Everything biodegradable is composted. We recycle and use eco-friendly products where possible. We have installed our own septic tank and the delicious un-chlorinated water comes straight from the local spring in our commune of St Hilaire Les Courbes.

Walking/ Hiking
There are countless paths and trails, and many well-marked routes. Whilst there is no ‘open access’ here, in truth there are enough well signed paths for a lifetime! The undulating terrain and the ever-changing landscape offers interest and unexpected panoramas.
While you are here you are welcome to borrow our maps and guides.
Cycling
Whether you like road cycling, mountain biking or cyclocross there are empty roads and tracks everywhere. The roads are peaceful, and the undulating roads offer beautiful views. When you do come across a car you will find that french drivers are much more respectful of cyclists and are more likely to shout an encouraging “allez allez allez”!
Most of the paths for walking are good for off-road cycling. There are some dedicated downhill mountain bike trails. Bike hire available via ‘Station Sports Vézère’ in Treignac, and electric bike hire is available in Treignac Main Square.
Bike hire also available from BikeHireDirect Contact Joanne & David by phone on 0033 (0)6 23 69 69 35 or by e-mail hautevienne@bikehiredirect.com They deliver and collect their bikes to us.

If you like to run, then the trails and paths are endless and empty.

At Lac de Bariousses ( five minutes by car from us) there is a giant inflatable Aqua park. See the website... http://www.sportsnature-correze.fr/treign-aqua-park
If you are prepared to walk a little, you can have your own private little beach and not see a soul! On our website there is lots of information on the 3 lakes we use regularly. You can swim freely in all the lakes as well as where there is supervised bathing.
