Le Manoir des Granges is a typical Perigordine house, built in 1889 in the local golden sandstone, with a natural slate roof. It has been restored to a high standard, and retains many of its characteristic features. The house is surrounded by mature, spacious gardens, including an orchard of apple, peach, cherry and walnut trees. The private 12 x 5 metre swimming pool is fenced for safety and set in private gardens, there is plenty of outside space for BBQ’s!  A large stone patio at the front of the house has table and chairs for 12 or more people.

At the other end of the garden is the new outdoor table tennis table and entrance to the pool garden.

Inside the accommodation is over three floors. The entrance hall connects to the large dining kitchen on one side, living room on the other, the very useful downstairs toilet completes the groundfloor.

The living room has armchairs and sofa’s surrounding a large stone fireplace for cosy log fires, flat screen TV with both French and English satellite channels, hi-fi and a DVD player. At one end of the room is a mezzanine forming the library area where you will find books to suit all tastes and a large table for playing games or trying out one of the puzzles.

The kitchen has all the amenities you need to enjoy your stay, including a large electric double oven cooker with 5 gas rings, microwave, two fridges, dishwasher and granite work surfaces throughout. The dining area has a beautiful handmade oak dining table which comfortably seats twelve. Pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and glasses complete the inventory.  Tea towels are provided.

The separate laundry and drying area with washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer is found to one side of the house.

There is central heating throughout the house.

There are four bedrooms on the first floor - one room with king size bed and shower suite; one with double bed and bathroom with shower over bath, toilet and washbasin; two rooms with two single beds in each and bathroom with shower over bath, toilet and washbasin.

There are two rooms on the second floor - each room has a double bed and bathroom with shower over bath, toilet and washbasin.

Towels and foot mats are provided.  A weekly linen and towel change is provided.

Les Manoir Des Granges offers guests beautiful grounds and an orchard of walnut and fruit trees, a table tennis table. It is close to all the local amenities – a boulangerie, for your fresh croissants and bread just a 5 minute stroll; a wonderful restaurant, Table du Moustier, a short 5 minute walk - ensuring no more driving after you have arrived! Added to that the beds are made ready for your arrival.

If you want to be more active during your holiday, you can cycle, walk, swim, horse-ride, canoe, fish, or indulge your artistic side with painting and photography. Or, if history is your passion, visit the caves, chateaux, castles and grottes. Lascaux 4 in Montignac which opened in December 2016, and Grotte de Font Gaume in Les Eyzies, are both 10 minutes drive.

The location of Le Manoir des Granges means that access to all the main visitor sites of both the Vezere Valley and the Dordogne are within a 30 minute drive. Just across the valley, on the other side of the river, is the incredible Roque Saint Christophe, a rock shelter that was used as a dwelling from 55,000 years ago.  Later, during the Middle Ages and up until the Renaissance Period, they gradually changed to become a fortress and protected town.

There are 8 different golf courses available in our area, most are within a one hour drive. The closest is Golf de la Marterie near Le Bugue.

Sarlat has one of the best French markets people have ever been to. Extremely popular with both tourists and locals alike. The Saturday market is the biggest (and the busiest) where the Wednesday market is smaller and tends to be mainly local produce.

Montignac has a wonderful street market twice a week and nearby Rouffignac has a splendid Sunday morning market where you will generally see the local farmers exhibiting their freshly picked vegetables. Plump ducklings, fresh Foie Gras, unbelievable selections of cheese local to the Dordogne and don’t forget the walnuts which are very important to the region.

Night markets are a different thing altogether. It is an occasion where you go to eat and drink the local food provided for you by the local producers of the area. A wonderful social occasion with music. Take your own plate, cutlery and glasses, and go early to get a space. The one in Saint Leon sur Vezere is extremely popular and not too far to drive.
