Local Attractions
The bastide village of Villefranche-du-Perigord is one of the famous bastide villages that lies in the south of the Perigord Noir region, located in the Valley of the Lémance, between the valleys of the Lot and Dordogne rivers. It still retains very beautiful medieval buildings dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. This charming town is rich in wonders and friendliness especially on market day Saturday mornings where you can soak up the ambience and vibrant colours of French life around the market.
Villefranche-du-Perigord is famous for its foie gras, walnuts and cepe mushrooms but is a closely guarded secret where you might find the cepe. Coustalou is the perfect base for exploring the neighbouring bastide towns such as Monpazier and Domme in the Dordogne, Monflanquin and Villeneuve-sur-Lot in the Lot Valley.
Villefranche is only 40 mins drive from the stunning towns of Sarlat and Domme overlooking the river Dordogne and in both Lot and Dordogne valley you wilal discover stunning medieval riverside towns overhanging both beautiful rivers. There are numerous historic and geographical sites to explore including the famous Lascaux caves at Montignac, Rocamadour, Padirac, la Roque Gageac that must be visited from Villefranche.
