Local Attractions
This area of France is reported to have the 2nd highest level of sunshine in the country.
The region has a rural farming feel to it, with agriculture being the main occupation of the locals. This gives the area it's lovely open feel with vast fields of wheat, oil-seed rape and sunflowers. Hugh skies are the product of a softly undulating landscape, giving rise to wonderful sunsets and stunning night-time displays of stars
Within the region is La Rochelle, just one hour away, with its historic harbour where you can sit and eat at its many outside restaurants. The town has many fine shops and boutiques. There are several sandy beaches nearby.
A contrast can be found in the Marais, also known as the Green Venice, where there are numerous quiet waterways and several relaxing restaurants. Punts are available here.
The historic cities of Saintes and Poitiers are less than an hours drive away. Visit the amphitheatre in Saintes and walk around the signposted routes through Poitiers.
About an hours drive south is Cognac where you can visit a distillary and see how cognac is made and try a few samples! Also try the unigue aperitif Pineay de Charente.
A family day out to the Valley of the monkeys is a must. Here you can walk among them and watch them play.
The famous zoo at Palmyre is one of the best in Europe.
