Beautiful Holiday Farmhouse Near Casteljaloux, Landes, Gascony, France
This traditional single-storey, half-timbered Landais farmhouse has a lot of character both inside and out. It is set in 7,000 square metres of grass clearing in the middle of a pine forest. Deer can be easily seen. The nearest neighbours are about 1km away but the local town, shops and restaurants are within 10 kms.
The house comprises three bedroomsl with double beds and/or single and bunk beds, plus 2 separate bathrooms. All bedrooms have doors to garden. Large walk in dressing room can have a bed; lounge has sofa bed.
A huge central fireplace gives the living and dining rooms a unique character. There are 2 sofas and one armchair, a TV, DVD and PS2 (with discs), board games and books. The dining room table seats 8 indoors but can be taken outside to the covered patio.
A large covered patio is integral to the house and in summer becomes an extra room open to nature and shaded from the sun. Garden furniture can increase dining seating and there is a barbecue.
The age of the house means that it designed to be naturally cool in the hot summers and warm in winter, especially given the huge fireplace.

Casteljaloux has a lake with a beach and other activities including a tobogan and a tree walk. It is 7kms away. The Atlantic coast and the Pyrenees are a 2 hour drive.

Skiing - Pyrennes is about 2 hours away. Possible day or two day excursion.
Les Landes forest is a national park. Casteljaloux and Houilles are within 10kms and have restaurants, banks and shops. Nerac (the setting for Chocolat), water parks, river boat trips, bastides, Armagnac country are all close. Bordeaux, Gascony, the Dordogne,the Atlantic coast and the Pyrennes are easy day trips.
The summer is packed with local festivals and ferias. Casteljaloux hosts bull runs and fights (no killing!) and Nerac has the annual Buzet wine festival with itinerant bands entertaining the street party every August.
