Elegant 12th Century Villa with Pool

Grandval is a historic stone Maison de Maitre of 12th Century origins situated on the edge of a plateau with stunning views to the valley below and plateau beyond. This extremely spacious family villa is situated in its own very secluded 5 acres, with a variety of trees, lawns and shrubs. The pool is 10m x 5m with Roman steps and is built on the edge of a ridge overlooking the valley below.

The house has an elegant interior. The 36' salon with high beamed ceilings and stone walls has a magnificent bookcase which fills the entire length of one wall.  Grandval is 5kms from the village of Montaigu de Quercy.

GROUND FLOOR

  • Large entrance hall with flagstone floor leads to the Baronial style Salon with its beautiful stone fireplace, 15' beamed ceiling and magnificent bookcase.  The room is furnished with a very comfortable sofa and chairs and magnificent medieval style solid oak dining table with Baronial Chandelier above.  French windows lead onto an elevated terrace.

There is a seating area for alfresco dining with a barbecue and a spectacular pool built on the edge of the plateau to take advantage of the stunning views. The balconies strategically placed around the house offer shade from the summer sun at different hours of the day.

The garden is landscaped with a variety of shrubs, roses, lawns and trees. Grandval also has its own natural Spring. There is a large area of lawn for games with plenty of shade for relaxing with a cool glass of wine to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Grandval.

The nearest village is Montaigu de Quercy which is some 5 kilometres away. Here you have all the local shopping facilities you need. Nearby are tennis courts and a large lake for swimming and boating. The lake has a lovely sandy beach.

The local market is on a Saturday morning is bustling and colourful. A variety of wonderful local produce is on sale, including cheese, fish, meat, fresh vegetables and fruit.

There are several fascinating Bastide towns in the area with their narrow winding roads and cobbled streets and townhouses that date to Medieval times.

During the summer months, there are numerous festivals and concerts in almost all the local villages and towns.

As you would expect, local restaurants and wines of this area are excellent and very reasonably priced.

Toulouse and Bergerac airport are just 1.5 hours away and the Mediterranean or Atlantic coast can be reached in 3 hours.

The region offers an abundance of interesting excursions including visits to medieval castles, vineyards, and gardens as well as the most spectacular countryside for walking.

There are two local golf courses; one 9 hole and the other is 18 .
