Holidays in Gascony for Health and Wellbeing

Holidays in Gascony for Health and Wellbeing

Lovely things to do in Gascony
June 28th, 2021 4 minute read

As we’re all more aware than ever before of our health and wellbeing – Gascony is the perfect place to visit for a healthy and safe holiday that will leave you feeling recharged and refreshed.

If the past year has made us more aware of anything, it’s the importance of our day-to-day health and hygiene practices. However, the pandemic has also shone a spotlight on our wider sense of wellbeing – including for many people where they want to live, the sustainability and purity of our environments, our lifestyle in general, and where we choose to holiday. This year at least, bustling city holidays may seem a little less appealing as we learn to readapt to keeping our distance and seeking space. Where better, then, to visit than Gascony – the land of ‘bien-etre’ (wellbeing), rolling open countryside, a leisurely pace of life and low population destiny? Here are our top reasons why Gascony is the perfect destination for a healthy holiday in 2021:

Open space and countryside

Historic Gascony covered a vast area, stretching from the Atlantic coast to Toulouse in the East, and from the majestic Pyrenees mountains all the way north to Bordeaux and the mighty river Garonne – in fact about half of what is today loosely referred to as South West France.  This is a deeply rural area (‘La France Profonde’), including most of the French Pyrenees Mountain range, rich farmland, 500-year-old vineyards, ancient oak woodland, and the Atlantic coastline.  Gascony has practically no air pollution and is therefore probably one of the healthiest destinations in Europe! Its mild climate means that enjoying the great outdoors is made easy, with plenty of space and a fresh, pure air quality.

Staying active

The beautiful, unspoilt countryside of rolling hills and valleys also offers plenty of scope for outdoor expeditions and exploring. Gascony is one of the best places to enjoy an active holiday, entirely at your own pace. You can truly do as much or as little as you like, from enjoying the pool at your Simply Gascony holiday house to exploring many of the well-regarded hiking trails through the Pyrenees, cycling routes, water sports, surfing – you name it. What’s more, the climate is generally so agreeable that you do not have to worry about the weather, with warm summers and mild autumns and winters. Slower pace of life and stress-free environment

Although Gascony is less well-known than other French holiday destinations (that’s what makes it so great!) you will find that the people who do know about Gascony tend to return time and time again. A big part of the region’s charm is its slower pace of life and stress-free atmosphere. Here, wellbeing and quality of life are highest on the agenda –  it’s a big part of the area’s culture. The stresses of modern day life really do melt away, and it is almost as though you have taken a step back in time. We can’t think of anywhere better to unwind and recharge your batteries.

Low population density

Last but not least, Gascony also enjoys one of the lowest population densities in the whole of France – it’s certainly a holiday location that is guaranteed to be far from the madding crowds!

We understand that Covid-19 is making international travel difficult during 2021, that’s why we’re offering a ‘No-Risk’ booking promise for all holidays this year. Learn more here.
