Our stone house, Les Amandiers, is nestled in a uniquely beautiful setting between Draguignan and Lorgues, in the heart of the rolling countryside of the Var, the wine-growing region of Provence. Its location is ideal, between the coast to the south with its many sandy beaches and the magnificent Gorges du Verdon to the north, and halfway between the picturesque towns of Nice and Aix. The house is just 3 km from Draguignan, a charming little town that is lively all year round and offers everything you could wish for: weekly markets, delicatessens, fashion and decoration boutiques, theatre, cinema, numerous restaurants and charming cafés with terraces. My autumn, winter and spring guests particularly appreciate this varied offer. It's a wonderful time of year: the climate is mild, generally very sunny, the light warm and golden, and the coastal towns enjoy a quieter, more pleasant tourist season.
Visit the natural wonders of the Gorges du Verdon and their great lake, Lac de Sainte-Croix. In summer, you can take a boat trip through the gorges and swim in the crystal-clear lake. The magnificent lavender fields near Valensole are also nearby. In autumn and spring, you can walk or cycle here, and the charming restaurants in the many surrounding mountain villages offer a pleasant break.
The region :
Good, well-known golf courses, such as ‘La Motte’ (there are 14 in the whole of the Var), and excellent restaurants, such as the famous truffle restaurant ‘Chez Bruno’, are within easy reach of Lorgues. Other fine restaurants can be found in the beautiful neighbouring villages of Lorgues, Flayosc and Les Arcs. In these romantic villages, you'll discover authentic Provence, with its wonderful weekly markets. I've got some great addresses and tips for you. The magnificent, vast sandy beaches of Sainte-Maxime, Saint-Raphaël and Saint-Tropez can be reached in around 35 to 50 minutes. Visit some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe! Les Arcs station is just 10 minutes away. From there, be sure to visit the famous old town, ‘Le Parage’, dating back to the 12th century.
All its natural stone houses, romantically illuminated in the evening, are home to a castle-restaurant offering magnificent panoramic views. Also well worth a visit are the Le Thoronet monastery, a masterpiece of 12th-century architecture, and the region's many wine-growing châteaux, where classical concerts are held throughout the year.
Nice airport is around 60 minutes away. Nice, with its museums, beautiful old town, magnificent Promenade des Anglais and flower market, which turns into a magnificent antique market on Mondays in the Cour Saleya, is well worth a visit.
Arrival
By car, the journey from Munich to home is 880 km across Switzerland or, for example, 930 km over the Brenner Pass, a comfortable 8-hour journey. Experience shows that the journey through the beautiful countryside goes by very quickly, ideally accompanied by some good entertainment or a good audio book. If you prefer to fly, the best airports are Nice, Toulon or Marseille, each about 80-100 km from the house, and the motorway is less than an hour away. I'll give you a precise itinerary and the house is very easy to find!
Private, original and authentic natural stone house - a rarity in Provence - in a quiet, secluded setting in an 8,000 m² Provencal garden, very romantic and cosy, with lots of charm, original wooden beams, old terracotta floors.
Special features
Large windows, all south-facing in the large garden, let plenty of light and sunshine into the house, as does gas central heating in all rooms, as well as optional portable electric radiators and a fireplace.

We recommend visiting the Verdon Gorges, with the lavender fields of Valensole north of our home. Here you will find a completely different Provence with extensive sheep pastures and golden eagles. During summer you can swim in the deep blue Lake Ste. Croix at the gorges or take a boat trip through the fascinating gorges.
Visit the wonderful nearby towns of Cannes with its Croisette or Aix with its Cour Mirabeau and the many museums in Antibes, St. Paul de Vence, Vence, Nice and Cannes. There are various hiking trails and bike tours to discover in the surrounding area.
