Mont St Michel is only about 70 miles away via the motorway.

Nearer to home you have the village of Hambye where there is a beautiful abbey situated in a most picturesque valley (just 6 miles away) plus delightful restaurant.

For beautiful sandy beaches on the west coast simply drive 30 minutes from the property and you are there.

Picturesque Coutances is 14km away. It is particularly well known for its beautiful cathedral and annual jazz festival, 'Jazz Sous les Pommiers'. Countances also has a pool.

Historic Places to Visit : Mont St Michel, Abbey de Hambye, Abbey de Lucerne and Falaise which is the birthplace of William the Conqueror. Restaurants : There are several inexpensive restaurants in the area, many with lunchtime menus for 13 Euros. Sometimes including wine. If not, ask for a 'pichet' - house wine. The Auberge at Nicorps is good and at Haute St Martin, just off the beach.

Shops in the Village : Boulangerie/patisserie, 2 butchers, one sells homemade pates etc and the other sells the odd bottle of wine if you've forgotten to get one! A pharmacy. There is a small bar/restaurant.

Travel : If you don't want to go to Caen by car why not go by train (1hr), fares reasonable and free parking at station (Coutances); also Rouen.

Motorways are good, A84 just to the south takes you into Brittany - St Malo or Mont St Michel.

World War II : Numerous stories abound. Roncey was liberated from the Nazis on July 27th and the battle for St Lo was long, (took about 6 weeks) and tedious. There are tours available for battle areas.
