Welcome to the new Maison Tabarka - the latest Marseillan shared secret in the fishermen's quarter.
Park in the private courtyard outside your own front door, then step into the open-plan living space - your home from home for as long as you wish.
A modern and well- equipped kitchen, which boasts a ceramic hob, microwave and oven for cooking your fresh local fish and veg personally selected from the enticing stalls in Marseillan market. Kettle and push-down cafetière for that first cup of the day, before you head out tothe quayside or market place for a second grande creme or simple espresso whilst people watching.
Whether you fancy a home-cooked meal, or seafood platter from your neighbours' oyster farms, fresh figs, salads and summer fruit from the market gardens, washed down with a bottle of wine from the winery at the corner, settle down at the wooden dining table, just by the kitchen, or step outside onto the secluded terrace, to dine under the stars or toast the new day over coffee and croissants for breakfast.
Flop in a comfy sofa or armchair for catching up with the weather report and news on TV. Or logging on to the secure WiFi to check your emails or update your social media status.
There is a washing machine tucked away in the cupboard under the stairs. Clothes dry in the breezes of the Languedoc on your patio terrace.
Upstairs to two bedrooms:
The master bedroom with its double bed and air-conditioning and a twin room next door, with electric fan. Newly refitted shower room and WC.
Just yards away from several long-time favourite Marseillan port homes Les Chaluts, Terrasse des Pecheurs, Rives du Port and La Madeleine, tucked away just behind the Port Tabarka, we may not have the same views across the water, but a south-facing patio, with its electric awning is a year-round sun trap, away from the eyes of passers by, yet the the fishing port is just metres from your front door, and the restaurants on the quaysides only a couple of minutes stroll away and the historic village centre a mere five minute walk on market day.
The bonus here is air-conditioning in the living room and the master bedroom. So you may remain chilled and fresh in the summer, and reverse the system to keep cosy and warm in midwinter. The life of a fishing port continues all year round, so the new Maison Tabarka welcomes guests whatever the season.
When the swallows return to Marseillan in Spring, they celebrate with an exhilarating swirling display of aerobatics around the rooftops of the port, flitting from rue des Chantiers above the patio to rue des Pecheur, around the corner.
In autumn, the harvest moon rises, a rich plump apricot globe hovering above the lagoon, spilling a golden trail across the waters just around the corner - unforgettable. And Christmas sees the centre of the village transformed: maybe a skating rink, always chalets selling mulled wine from the local growers and the fabulous nativity scene under the covered market, lambs, donkeys, ducks and chickens grazing or pecking contentedly amongst the lifesize figures of wise men, shepherds and townsfolk.
For the year-end celebrations, Maison Tabarka may be available for stays of 2 weeks or longer over the Christmas and New Year period - enjoy the festivities or stay from Marseillan's Christmas Market to the start of the January Sales at the big department stores in nearby Beziers and Montpellier. Prhaps you'd fancy a longer stay in the off season. Just ask us.
Now that the shuttle bus from Beziers airport meets every flight and drops off in Marseillan - at only €1.60 each way - what better way of escaping the grey skies of home for the Mediterranean blue skies of the Port Tabarka.
For our off-season tenants, we offer heating everywhere.
There is also a parking space in front of the house, in the private courtyard.
The house is located in the district of winegrowers and fishermen, near Port Tabarka, its park and its small plagette beach onthe lagoon, where the localsplay away from the tourist beaches of the nearby resorts.
