The Secret Garden
Hidden behind Les Bruyères is one of the property's most delightful surprises – the beautiful Secret Garden.
Invisible from the street, the garden opens into a colourful and wonderfully peaceful private space filled with more than 25 varieties of flowering plants, visiting birds and plenty of shady places to sit, socialise or relax with a good book.
The spacious patio features comfortable salon seating, an outdoor dining table, umbrellas and BBQ, surrounded by traditional Charentaise stone walls and attractive wooden fencing.
A long pergola extends along two sides of the garden, covered with colourful flowering vines that provide welcome shade during the summer. Look carefully amongst the planting and you may even discover the garden's rare Voodoo Lilies.
Birdwatchers can make use of the binoculars provided, while the nearby potager garden produces seasonal tomatoes, fresh herbs, salad leaves and strawberries that are happily shared with guests.
The garden is also home to a small flock of friendly resident hens, tucked discreetly beneath one side of the pergola. Among them is Ursula the Wonder Chicken, a particularly sociable character who enjoys welcoming visitors. As an all-female flock, the hens are quiet and there are no early-morning cockerels to disturb the peace.
Private, colourful and full of character, the Secret Garden provides a wonderful setting for outdoor dining, relaxing in the sunshine or enjoying a peaceful afternoon in the heart of Verteuil-sur-Charente.
