Les Bruyères offers charming gîte and chambres d’hôtes accommodation in two separate maisons connected by a partially covered courtyard, with private off-street parking. Set directly on the River Charente, the property enjoys a wonderful location in the heart of the fairytale château village of Verteuil-sur-Charente.

The Les Bruyères Gîte has three rooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. Rooms can be rented individually as chambres d’hôtes, with breakfast served by your host Roxann, or the entire property can be booked as a self-catering gîte for larger groups, with exclusive use of the kitchen and garden.

The second property, the Luxe Maison, features two exceptionally spacious and beautifully designed chambres d’hôtes: the Royale Jacuzzi Suite and Nature Spa Suite. Both have their own distinctive character and private two-person jacuzzi hot tubs.

Altogether, Les Bruyères offers five rooms which can also be reserved together for larger gatherings, families and wedding parties.

It’s a wonderfully flexible property, allowing your stay to be arranged around your individual needs.

THE ROYALE JACUZZI SUITE

Step into the Royale Suite and you immediately feel transported to the romance of old-world France.

A magnificent four-poster bed takes centre stage, while two large windows overlook the River Charente. Views of the old convent, ducks paddling below and the gentle sound of flowing water create an exceptionally peaceful setting.

The suite features a king-size bed with luxury linens, a private two-person jacuzzi tub, coffee and tea facilities, mini fridge, television and soft robes.

The impressive bathroom has soaring ceilings, a large claw-foot bath and original stone masonry, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a bygone era.

Another special feature is the private Romeo and Juliet balcony overlooking the rooftops of Verteuil and the flower-filled courtyard below – a lovely spot to enjoy your petit déjeuner.

THE NATURE SPA SUITE

The Nature Spa Suite combines the atmosphere of a tropical retreat with traditional rural French architecture.

A striking round bed takes centre stage, while a sunken two-person jacuzzi sits beneath the original wooden beams. Tropical plants throughout the room create a calm and relaxing environment.

A beautiful raw-wood feature wall sits behind the large sofa, while a hanging chair provides the perfect place to relax with a good book.

The bathroom features a refurbished French workbench with two black stone sinks and a spacious modern shower with rain-style shower head, completing the spa-like experience.

Soft robes, coffee and tea facilities, television and a mini fridge are also provided. Your private spa retreat in Verteuil awaits.

THE BLUETIT SUITE

Spacious and comfortable, the Bluetit Suite is ideal for families or groups of friends, with two double beds and a large private bathroom.

Sleeping up to four guests, the room offers plenty of space, with an armoire, dresser, writing desk and chair. Located on the ground floor, it is particularly convenient for families with young children or guests who find stairs difficult.

The bathroom has a modern sink and shower with useful storage space. There is also a television and fan, while the window overlooks the colourful garden filled with flowers and visiting birds.

Guests have access to a communal refrigerator for personal food, coffee and tea facilities in the shared kitchen, and full access to the peaceful garden with its many different places to sit and relax. When staying on a chambres d’hôtes basis, cooking and full use of the kitchen are not included.

When the entire gîte is rented, including the Bluetit, Hummingbird and Hoopoe Suites, guests enjoy exclusive use of the kitchen and garden, together with cooking and dining equipment and BBQ facilities. The complete gîte sleeps up to 10 guests.

THE HUMMINGBIRD SUITE

The Hummingbird Suite captures the romance of rural France with its impressive ancient wooden beams and traditional Charentaise stone walls.

Located upstairs on the first floor, the room has two white antique French beds with luxury linens, a wardrobe and comfortable lounge chair.

A large skylight fills the room with natural light during the day and provides a wonderful view of the stars at night. A sunshade can be drawn when you want a leisurely morning.

The private bathroom includes a shower and sink with plenty of space. A television and drinking water are also provided.

Guests can use the communal refrigerator and coffee and tea facilities in the shared kitchen, as well as the peaceful garden. When booked as chambres d’hôtes, cooking and full kitchen use are not included.

When the complete three-bedroom gîte is booked, guests have exclusive use of the kitchen and garden, including cooking and dining equipment and BBQ. Together, the Bluetit, Hummingbird and Hoopoe Suites accommodate up to 10 guests.

THE HOOPOE SUITE

The Hoopoe Suite blends the character of old-world France with a stylish contemporary edge.

An antique French double bed with luxury designer linens sits beneath a skylight, allowing you to gaze at the stars from bed. A skylight shade is provided for those mornings when you prefer to sleep late.

Located upstairs on the first floor, the room also has an oversized lounge chair, writing desk, wardrobe and television. Massive waxed wooden beams and original Charentaise stone walls provide a wonderful reminder that you are staying in a beautifully converted French barn.

The private bathroom has a shower and sink. Comfortable and intimate, the Hoopoe is an ideal getaway for two.

Guests have access to the communal refrigerator, coffee and tea facilities and the relaxing garden. When booked on a chambres d’hôtes basis, cooking and full kitchen use are not included.

Guests booking the complete gîte enjoy exclusive use of the kitchen and garden, cooking and dining equipment and BBQ facilities. The three suites together sleep up to 10 guests.

THE SECRET GARDEN

One of the hidden delights of Les Bruyères is its Secret Garden. From the street, you would never imagine such a peaceful and colourful space was waiting behind the property.

Open the gîte doors or courtyard gate and discover a private garden filled with more than 30 flowering species, visiting birds and numerous shady places to relax, socialise or simply curl up with a book.

The large patio provides comfortable salon seating, a dining table, umbrellas and BBQ, all surrounded by traditional Charentaise stone walls and attractive wooden fencing.

A long pergola runs along two sides of the garden, providing welcome summer shade beneath flowering vines in a wonderful variety of colours. Look carefully and you may even discover the rare Voodoo Lilies hidden among the planting.

Birdwatchers can make use of the binoculars provided. Beside the patio is a productive potager garden which is happily shared with guests, offering tomatoes, fresh herbs, salad greens and strawberries when in season.

The resident hens live discreetly beneath one side of the pergola. Friendly and full of character, they include Ursula the Wonder Chicken, who is usually very happy to greet visitors.

The all-female flock is quiet, with no crowing and no unpleasant smells to disturb the tranquillity.

Colourful, peaceful and full of unexpected details, the Secret Garden is a wonderful place to relax and one of the many special features of a stay at Les Bruyères.
