Review of our stay at Roubignol

We had another fabulous week at Roubignol, as a family of 5 adults, this August 2022. It felt really special returning after our wonderful experience there 2 years ago, when we were 10 in total.
The house is so spacious and comfortable, offering shade from the heat when needed and the pool is breathtaking. We’ve never been in one that offers such an amazing panoramic view. There was so much we could do onsite (and did), aside from swimming and playing in the pool, including playing Boules, Table-Tennis and going on walks. We also enjoyed a visit to and tasting at Chateau Eugenie, just 10 mins from the house, a fun, physical Aquapark experience in Catus, 22 mins away and a delicious meal in Cahors.
Thank you Jill, for being so helpful and accommodating, every step of the way of our booking, journey and stay. It was lovely to receive your welcoming call on our first evening there.
Roubignol will forever be in our memories and hearts. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

We enjoyed our stay at Roubignol enormously. We loved everything, especially of course the tower, and the terraces and pool of the main house. We felt honoured to be entrusted with such a large and beautiful property for the week and did our best to look after it as responsibly as we could. I also discovered how pleasurable it was to keep the pool maintained, evicting all leaves and insects/frogs every day and giving Percy (the pool robot) a good workout on occasion.

Other things we loved :
- the figs (sorry, we ate quite a few!)
- the lizards which almost became pets.
- the peace, quiet and solitude.
- the local walks, especially the Balcon (stunning views), the route through St Vincent Rive d'Or going around on the botanic path and returning via the valley below the Balcon up to the road beyond Roubignol. This makes a great 5 to 6 mile walk.
- the weather, sunny and hot all week.

As well as exploring the local area (e.g. walks up to the ridge behind Luzech castle ; drives to Belaye and St Circ La Popie) during our week we cycled the veloroute from Cahors to about 10 miles beyond Fumel stopping off to explore gems such as Puy L'Eveque and local villages en route. It was a lovely time of year to be there with all of the vines and orchards ready for harvest. The only hard part was when we had to cycle back up the hill to Roubignol on occasion, tiring work in the heat after 40+ miles, but it made a dip in the pool even more wonderful!

Thanks very much for allowing us to stay at Roubignol, it was a great week that we'll remember with great fondness for ever.

 August 2018

This year was my mum’s 80th and the best present my brother and I could think of giving is a week in her favourite part of France with her children and grandchildren. With the 6 grandchildren aged from 4-20 we needed plenty of space and a swimming pool to keep us cool and entertained. It also needed to be something a little bit special and different to the places we’d visited in the past. Roubignol seemed to fit all criteria perfectly. The big house provided interesting and comfortable accommodation for all. Having terraces on two sides meant we could choose whether to have our meals in the shade or sunshine. The separate tower turned into a great getaway for the 4 older children. It was a really hot week, so we spent quite a bit of time by the pool which was immaculately clean, well maintained and a joy to use with easy steps for my mum and the 4 year old to be able to get safely in and out. With 11 of us, lots of cooking and eating occurred and the kitchen couldn’t be better equipped to meet all of our needs.
We made a few little trips in the surrounding area, Luzech is small but charming and we had a lovely lunch by the river on market day. We hired some bicycles which was good for those of us not scared of a few hills. The Cahors wines are wonderful, the adults had a very enjoyable afternoon sampling them in the local vineyards and received a welcoming reception everywhere.
