Local Attractions
Our luxury holiday cottage is in a superb location,in the heart of the Loire valley, France, close to the A85 autoroute for quick and easy access from the channel ports, but nestled in the calm French countryside and surrounded by orchards. Our nearest town, Saumur is only 5 km away and has all the amenities you could need. There is a large local market every Saturday morning.
We are 50 minutes drive from the beautiful historic city of Angers and an hour from the cities of Tours and Le Mans. All have wonderful shops and historic old quarters to explore.
The surrounding area is listed as an UNESCO world heritage site, because of the outstanding natural and man-made environments it offers. There are hundreds of châteaux and gardens to visit, wonderful walks and bike rides directly from the house or further afield, vineyards and wine-tastings and lots of local events and attractions. Those who like horses will be interested in the National Riding School and riding stables based here. The many rivers are popular with anglers but a permit is required.
Saumur and the local area offer a wealth of good restaurants of all kinds, from a Michelin-starred gastronomic establishment to pizza houses.
During the summer months there is a very cheap train ticket (TribU) available which allows up to five of you to travel for two days within the 5 counties of the region (Départements of the Pays de la Loire) and visit their major centres and the western coast for about 45 Euros in total (this does not include Tours as it is out of region). The station is 4 km from the house, as is the local hypermarket.
