Les Cireys

We have just returned from a fantastic couple of weeks in this charming gite in a most beautiful part of France. The gite was well-equiped, quirkily furnished, and had the advantage of a main room that was both light (for reading and beading) and aslo cool in the heat of (sometimes very hot) July days.It had been furnished to present a unique experience with a range of interstgin bric-a-brac - we spent a happy hour completing the jigsaw of the Departements of France!

The gite is a short walk from the village with a boulangerie, bar and shop (though that was closed and not scheduled ot re-open until August 2010). Further afield there are supermarkets in Le Bugue and Lalinde, and the local markets sell excellent fruit, vegetables, fish, cheese and everything else one might want to eat.

We are both keen walkers and this is ideal walking country - for several days we left the car at the gite as there were varied and intersting walks - for example to Limeuil, and to view the Cingle de Tremolat - on our doorstep. Further afield highlights included a trips to Sarlat, La Roque-Gageac, Beynac et Cazenac, Les Eyzies and Bergerac; visits to Bastide towns such as Montpazier, Beaumont-en-Perigord and Belves; and a wonderful afternoon at the Paper Mill Museum at Port Couze.

A delightful place with extremely friendly, helpful but unobtrusive owners on site, and definitely to be recommended if you are seeking a relaxing break in this lovely part of the world.
