Fantastic family holiday! (Copy of review on Home Away)
My husband, son (age 13) and daughter (age 8) and I have just spent 2 fantastic weeks at La Fleurie and we would highly recommend this accommodation and area for a family holiday!
The Gite, location and activities went beyond our expectations and is certainly the best holiday we have had in France!
The spacious Gite is tastefully decorated and has a 400 year old stone wall and high ceiling which definitely gives it a 'wow' factor! It is clean, well equipped and each bedroom has an ensuite which is ideal after a day at the lake or beach. Outside there is a good size swimming pool (which Roger our host discreetly maintained on a daily basis), plenty of loungers and a garden table and chairs, all contained within a beautiful walled garden making it very private. Pool towels were provided too along with parasols and a cool box for a day at the lake or beach.
Our hosts Roger and Jane were very welcoming and extremely accommodating, booking activities for us and offering advice on restaurants and days out and accurate weather forecasts! On our arrival a welcome pack for our evening meal and breakfast (including wine and beer!) was provided and greatly appreciated after a long journey.
Mirepeisset is a quiet and very quaint village with a lovely little shop/bakery only a 5 minute walk away where we bought our daily croissants and baguettes! For a bigger food shop a supermarket is only a 5 min drive away.
We made the most of having our car and everywhere we visited was between 5-45 minutes away. Our days out that we would recommend include visiting Narbonne to see the tallest/smallest cathedral followed by a walk by the canal and finishing the day off with a delicious cake at the 'Delice Cake' cafe is a must! Kayaking, lake swimming and pedalo boating at stunning Roquebrun! The drive to Roquebrun is spectacular too! We really enjoyed an Olive oil tour and tasting at L'Oulibo which included a treasure hunt for the children to keep them interested. We also visited Fonserannes Locks at Bezier and Bezier town with its floating umbrellas and spotty streets on show in the summertime. We also highly recommend the soft sand beaches and clear seas of Gruissan Plage and La Franqui Plage. Jouarres lake was also very good and fairly quiet with a floating Aquapark for the children.
In the evening we ate twice at a lovely local restaurant in Mirepeisset called La Garenne and also visited the Marina at Gruissan to eat in restaurants overlooking the boats.
