Renovated by a multi-award winning theatre lighting designer, this charming house is set in the heart of the charming market town of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, nearby the river and a stroll from pretty squares and bistros.

The house comprises four sitting rooms, a courtyard garden and six double bedrooms spread out over three floors, of which four are ensuite. A fine, three-storey property with parts dating back to the medieval times, boasting exposed beams, stone walls and large fireplaces. There is a huge kitchen, a gymnasium with a full-sized Swedish sauna and a music room with grand piano and cinema. In addition, is a summer kitchen conservatory, a pub-inspired games room, a formal drawing room and lots of convivial places to eat, both inside and out.

Guests enter through a side gate into a wonderful, walled courtyard with peaceful gardens, a swimming pool and sun terraces amongst the olive trees and lavender beds.
The whole place is made up of splendid rooms full of character, tasteful art and designer features.

The Area

Sainte-Foy-la-Grande is a friendly, bustling bastide town on the banks of the Dordogne River. Founded in the 13th century, the town still follows its original grid layout, with narrow streets leading into a central square lined with independent shops, cafés and historic buildings. You’ll find bakeries, butchers, delicatessens, bookshops, florists, clothing boutiques and everyday stores, all used by locals and visitors alike, which gives the town a lively, authentic feel.

The heart of Sainte-Foy is its weekly Saturday market, one of the most popular in the region. The streets fill with stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, local cheeses, charcuterie, bread, honey and regional wines. Many people come for the atmosphere as much as the shopping, stopping for coffee or lunch at one of the nearby cafés or brasseries.

There’s a good choice of restaurants, from relaxed cafés and pizzerias to traditional French bistros and small family-run places offering local dishes. In the warmer months, terraces spill out onto the streets and square, making evenings particularly enjoyable.

The Dordogne River is central to life here, offering canoeing, kayaking, fishing and riverside walks, while nearby beaches are popular for swimming and picnics in summer. There are also plenty of walking and cycling routes through the surrounding countryside.

Just across the river is Port-Sainte-Foy-et-Ponchapt, with villages like Pineuilh and Saint-Avit-Saint-Nazaire close by, and Bergerac and Saint-Émilion within easy reach.

What makes Sainte-Foy-la-Grande so attractive is its mix of history, shops, food, outdoor life and strong community spirit. It’s lively without being crowded, welcoming without trying too hard, and easy to feel at home in.

A five minute drive or a twenty minute walk will take you to the edge of Pineuilh where there is a retail park with a hypermarket and other large outlet stores.
There is a long promenade to admire the view and allow yourself a wine or two.
