Surrounded by terraces, gardens, lemon, apricot and olive trees, this very special house hides away in a sleepy cul de sac in Marseillan Village itself.

Gorgeous home in a former winery
with heated swimming pool and gardens
4 bedrooms (sleeps 8)
2 bathrooms/3 wcs
heated swimming pool
(+ optional duplex annexe for 2-4 extra guests)

New bonus space Option of an extra duplex loft apartment or annexe built around the old winery vats - fabulous split level appartment for music lovers

Swim in the sunlit pool, dappled with the shadows of orange and lemon trees, sip a glass of your neighbour’s wine under the tiled eaves of the garden abris... or dine under the skylight of the light and airy dining room.

Languedoc Nirvana. The sense of calm begins as you open the driveway gates and park the car outside the tall unassuming building tucked behind the tree lined avenue..

A patio garden by the woodshed and a modest lawn outside the front door, then walk around the house to discover more distinctive and outside spaces, in a series of terraced gardens and outside rooms around th swimming pool, then step inside your new home.

In the 20th century, this was a little family-run winery. In fact, the huge original vats provide the very structure of several rooms. Imaginatively converted by a witty architect into a family house, the building adapts as easily to a role as a hideaway for two as to being a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom venue for a great escape en famille.

Cleverly designed to capture the sunshine and light of a Languedoc summer, with its atrium style dining room and trompe l'oeil mirror windows, the house still manages to become a cool sanctuary from the heat of the day, with its strong walls, designed to protect the wines from the noonday temperatures.

The ground floor can be a self-contained home in its own right, with a master bedroom and ensuite shower-room leading from the sitting room.

The open plan living space sprawls around the former wine cellars. A few discreet reminders of the building's past in the form of the soft scatter cushions evoking the great wines of France - Sancerre, Chablis, Bordeaux, Chanteauneuf du Pape - in the country of Picpoul de Pinet, Noilly Prat and Ricard!

You may choose your own soundtrack, with the high spec music system or simply browse the owner's eclectic tastes. The house CD collection that ranges from current sounds back to the crooners and chanteuses of the past. The CD library and the DVD collection have long proved firm favourites with our guests.

Guests choosing to book the extra Le Loft room or annexe have a second big screen to enjoy the movies away from the rest of the family. And an exclusive additional private collection of music and movies to enjoy upstairs.

Meanwhile, downstairs, for everyone, we have the spacious, yet cosy, sitting room with fireplace and large L shaped sofa - great for chilling out or snuggling up in front of a favourite movie on the lare TV screen.

Around the corner the large bright sunny and very well equipped kitchen has a breakfast bar, with a brace of bar stools, that is an ideal rendezvous for that secret early petit dejeuner a deux for the grown ups, whilst the rest of the sleepyheads doze on in their cosy bedrooms upstairs.
You can set the main table later for the croissants and baguettes and home made jam from the lady in the market when everyone else surfaces.

This kitchen, with preparation space on all four sides and windows to the front lawn and patio, boasts a high-level oven and an eye-level microwave, a great hob, plenty of work spaces, a dishwasher, the essential gadgets and all you need to prepare delicious meals for family and friends around the 8-seater table in the dining room area – a double height space, almost an atrium, with its huge glass windows that once were full height doors to let the tractors into the winery.

The dining room, overlooked only by internal windows from two of the three upstairs bedrooms, is not your only option for a dinner party. A glass wall opens to a raised terrace above the pool area, where around another family sized table you may enjoy your meal under a shady awning with the scent of the ripening citrus trees beneath the terrace and yet a third full sized family table in the poolside abris shelter  Visit throughout the year to enjoy the blossom or the fresh fruit, depending on the season.

Open the security gates to step down to the good sized heated swimming pool that runs the full length of the house, from the lawn and flower beds by the old stone wall to the summer kitchen, a tiled food preparation area with its own bread oven (perfect for home made pizzas) and the great abris – shelter from the summer sun, terracotta tiles roofs and an outdoor poolside lounge of chairs and recliners.

Climb the steps to walk around these converted outbuildings and step down to the extra secret garden.

Back in the house itself, the ground floor master bedroom suite has a shower room and wc of its own.

A glazed door from the hallway leads to the first floor, with another three very good bedrooms (2 doubles and 1 twin room). Two of which have windows looking across the atrium space, down into the dining area and out to the pool terrace. .

All four bedrooms are spacious, air conditioned and boast comfortable beds, and there is a style to suit every taste. You may prefer traditional carved wooden furniture or a more modern open style. One room boasts a grand glass-fronted bookcase for catching upon your reading, another has a writing desk by the open window - perfect peace and quiet for updating your holiday blog.

The main bathroom is designed for pampering, a proper bathtub as well as a step-up walk-in shower.

This is a house and gardens for many moods and all points of the sundial. Well-kept flower beds on a sun-trap patio on one side, a shady lawn to the west, just right for hiding under the oldest of the olive trees when the eastern pool side terrace is catching the heat of the afternoon.

Behind the terracotta roof and chimney of the summer kitchen, in the former kitchen garden, grab some summer fruit from the tree or discover another corner, another awning, for a quiet moment by yourself. Perhaps you will find your own corner of the house.

In the library bedroom, a full set of classic french encyclopaedias, old family recipe books and stacks of hardbacks and paperbacks to help you catch up on your forgotten classroom french.

Another bedroom has a desk by the window - maybe this is the holiday when you finally write your own bestseller.

Optional Extra:

For a weekly supplement, selected guests you may add the owner's private apartment annexe with its duplex loft-room, built above and around the original wine vats. This exclusive space is packed with music memorabilia  and mementos. LE LOFT: two storey annexe with the duplex bedroom and movie room, with its own kitchen, living room and and wet room.

Le Loft not only has a raised double bed in the mezzanine (with its own TV and media centre under the eaves), but a huge TV screen for watching DVD movies from the main house selection, and a comfy sofa and separate sofa-bed for film night away from the rest of the family. There is an ensuite washroom and wc on the same level.

A private staircase (follow the retro EXIT sign) leads downstairs to the former garage and wine store, with its sunken wet room with double shower. Most of the ground floor is given over to a specially fitted kitchen, wrapped around an old stone wine vat with the latest appliances and dining space for 2 or 4. Choose to book Le Loft - to expand the Jardin des Vignerons to the max.
