LOCAL AREA

Domaine des Hauts de Rouquette enjoys a peaceful countryside location at La Castagne Sud, just outside Eymet, making it an excellent base for discovering the vineyards, bastide towns and gastronomy of the southern Dordogne.

Eymet itself is one of the area's most attractive medieval bastide towns, founded in 1270. Guests can explore its historic streets, central square, shops, cafés and restaurants, together with the remains of its 13th-century château. Walking routes also explore the bastide, the River Dropt and nearby Lac de l'Escourou.

Outdoor activities are readily accessible. Local tourism information for the Domaine lists canoeing around 2km away, fishing around 1km, tennis around 2km, horse riding around 15km and golf around 16km, together with walking trails and cycle hire.

Bergerac, approximately 25km away, is the principal town of the Périgord Pourpre and is well worth a day out. Its historic centre is filled with narrow streets, small squares and half-timbered buildings, while visitors can stroll beside the Dordogne, explore the markets or take a traditional gabarre boat trip on the river.
