Local Attractions

On your doorstep you have not only have Mirabel, a hill top village used by the French resistance to escape capture in the Second World War but the picture postcard village of Belcastel with its chateau now classed as “One of the prettiest villages in France”.

Nearby there is also the medieval village of Peyrusse Le Roc, the former stronghold of the Dukes of Aquitaine and the Counts of Toulouse with its twin tours perched in the middle of the valley

The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking and cycling and fishing but if it is all about entertaining the children, there is an Alpaca farm nearby where you spend a couple of hours learning about them, pet them and you can even ride them or alternatively you could always take a picnic down to the Aveyron river flowing through the medieval village of Previnquières.

For another day out and only 20 minutes away is the historic bastide town of Villefranche de Rouergue which holds a weekly Thursday market and is said to be the best in the region, or you could book a canoe or kayak for an hour, 1/2 day/whole day just to cruise through the Gorges of the Aveyron

Places that are also a must to visit are Conques (a World Heritage Site) and Najac with it’s imposing chateau placed high above the village,

You could visit Cordes sur ciel on the way to the vineyards at Gaillac or St Antonin Noble Val has a fantastic Sunday market and is famed for the film “Chocolat” and “The hundred foot walk”.
There are the underground caves at Foissac to be explored which the children would enjoy as well. Cirq Lapopie is in the Lot valley and very popular and so is the plateau of Aubrac known for its world famous Laguiole knifes,.

Bozouls is a geological site great to walk around and then there is Sauveterre de Rouergue with its arched market square.

The Roquefort caves are not far away and are famous of course for its cheese and if it is wild life you are interested in you could visit Rocamadour to watch the eagles or for the civil engineers in the family just drive over the famous and spectacular Millau viaduct.......Phew the list is exhausting

This is truly a French retreat.........
