Welcome to House La France, overlooking the Orbieu River in the beautiful listed village of Lagrasse. Easily accessible and just a short drive from Carcassonne, Toulouse, Perpignan Montpellier and Girona airports.

The Abbey Sainte Marie d’Orbieu, the origins of which date back to the V111 century, is just one of many attractions of this lovely and unspoilt village in an area steeped in Cathar history.
There are six restaurants, two bars, an Epicerie, a Boulangerie, Pharmacy, Post Office and numerous pottery shops and galleries, all only a short walk from the front door as is the medieval (X1V century) covered market square where we have a weekly market selling a range of delicious organic and local produce including cheese, olive oil, fruit and vegetables, bread and more…

There are many activities nearby from swimming in the river, leisurely walks in the hills, a bike ride, or even sampling oysters freshly plucked from the sea. Perhaps, smply relax on the terrace and watch the sun go down.

Rampart Apartment:

The newest addition to House la France is the Rampart Apartment. This beautiful holiday apartment is available all year round.

Also accessed through the courtyard it is approximately 80 sq meters and designed especially for two. The apartment has one large bedroom, a bathroom, kitchen, a living room with big windows looking out to the river and the bridge and a terrace/balcony built from the remains of a tower, which we discovered whilst renovating.

All you need for a comfortable stay including flat screen TV, a DVD with an extensive library of films available and a Bose Wireless & Bluetooth speaker.

Hand made terracotta floors with antique furnishings and original art (some of which is by a local and very charming artist!) combine to make this a unique peaceful and special place for a holiday.

Situated in the wild and beautiful Corbières Hills on the banks of the river Orbieu and known as ‘one of the most beautiful villages in France’. Lagrasse is both an inspiring and relaxing place to visit.
Lagrasse is ideally situated to experience local culture, sample the cuisine and the abundant wines of the area. Once the home of the Cathars the region is steeped in rich and mysterious history.
Famous for its Benedictine Abbey, founded in 799 by Charlemagne, its picturesque covered market, the 12th century hump back stone bridge, and its labyrinth of medieval streets. Throughout the year Lagrasse village and surrounding areas offer a variety of places to explore and many things to do.

Only a short distance away is the wonderful medieval cité of Carcassonne, the Cathar castles of Queribus and Peyrepertruse and the Abbey Fontfroid with its beautiful gardens. The vibrant cities of Montpellier and Toulouse are also within easy reach. Only 40 minutes from the Mediterranean beaches you could spend the day windsurfing, sailing or sampling fresh oysters and sparkling wine from Limoux (the original French bubbly!).

Those with an appreciation for nature and art may wish to explore the Sculpture Trail, a wonderful walk through the hills amongst a diverse and eccentric collection of sculptures made of many differing mediums.
Collioure the famous Fauvist centre or the Museum of Modern Art in Ceret is only about 90 minutes drive away. The beautiful Medieval villages of the Costa Brava in Spain, old Girona and even Barcelona are further wonderful places to explore and also easily accessible.

Alternatively, take a trip into the dramatic scenery of the Pyrenees or cruise the Canal du Midi, go cycling (there are bikes on site which may be available for you to borrow and there is a very convenient bike hire right next door), walking, horse riding or, simply relax on the beautiful river terrace.

Payment can be made in EUR or GBP.
