Victoria is the `Gite` for those looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday home just south of the river Dordogne. Situated in the region of Lot et Garonne which is adjacent to the Dordogne region, Victoria provides an ideal rental home for those who are either looking for a short holiday or a longer let whilst writing your book or looking for the perfect house to buy. Victoria provides a rustic home in agricultural heartland.

With sufficient beds for 8 people and with glorious views across the farming countryside Victoria could be the ideal retreat. It would be suitable for one or more families or friends. For those who enjoy swimming, there is a large, shared swimming pool. The surrounding area boast some of the prettiest and most delightful towns and villages as well a huge range of tourist attractions and places of interest . In addition Victoria is very close to two large supermarkets and a huge number of excellent restaurants.

Given its great age we have tried hard to maintain its rustic character and have resisted modernising it. So there is no phone, no television and no central heating … just charm and character. (There is WiFi connection, however, mobile phone reception and a DVD player with a large stock of DVD’s).

It consists of entrance hall, kitchen, three bedrooms (two very large with three beds each and one smaller with double bed. Auxiliary folding beds are also available. There are two bathrooms with WC and showers. Cooking is by bottled gas cooker and oven and a microwave cooker. Should the weather turn chilly (very unlikely in the Summer), you can light a wood fire in the enormous traditional open fireplace or alternatively, there are bottled gas room heaters.
There is a large swimming pool that is shared with the owner by arrangement depending on the number of people occupying Victoria and their ages. Children must be supervised whenever around or in the pool. Bracelet alarms are also available for hire for small children if you would like further peace of mind and to provide additional security .

The owner lives just a couple of hundred metres away and is available to provide help if and when needed.

The views are stunning and the privacy is complete. The private garden is not overlooked by anyone. On the other side of the house butting up to the kitchen, is a pretty pond with lots of wildlife in it which is generally of considerable interest to children children as they try to catch the goldfish.

Local Attractions

Victoria is 1 mile from the tiny village of Ferrensac which is 3 miles from Castillonnes and 7 miles from Villereal.

Ferrensac is within easy reach of the historical Bastide towns of Monflanquin, Monpazier and Beaumont (Michelin maps 75 and 79) and many interesting castles and chateaux including Chateau Biron, Bonaguil, Monbazillac and Duras. Also quite close are the prehistoric caves of Lascaux (1.5 hrs) with some of the most ancient and remarkable cave paintings. There are many other fascinating caves around Les Eyzies well worth exploring with underground boat rides, train rides and stunning caverns with their stalagmites and stalactites. Ferrensac is surrounded by many picturesque mediaeval towns like Sarlat, Domme and Pujols. Swimming lakes and river bathing are also available nearby and make an interesting alternative pic-nic idea to ring the changes from swimming in the family sized pool.

In summer there are numerous events organised for visitors in all the local villages which compete for your attention. Particularly popular are the medieval festivals with fascinating exhibits and displays to see, eat, watch or participate in. Street dining is very popular and many of the festivals include wonderful dinners of many courses at very modest prices.

There are magnificent gardens to visit, and for the more active and adventurous, canoeing or ballooning down the river Dordogne, horse riding and magnificent walks.

For those who love French food, there are many excellent restaurants in easy reach offering superb French cuisine at very modest costs especially at lunch time.
