Le Port Du Crouesty is a major sailing centre at the southern end of the Presqu'ile du Rhuys, facing the bay of Quiberon and a couple of kilometres from the entrance of the beautiful Gulf of Morbihan. The property is close to the beach-100 paces away which is as close as anyone is able to get thanks to French planning consent.

This area is a boating paradise with over three hundred small islands, some inhabited and some uninhabited. It is possible to tour the Islands in the Gulf and also others in the Bay of Quiberon such as Belle Ile, Houat and Hoedic (duck and duckling) on one of the many boats that operate from Port Navalo (5 mins away by car or walkable in about 35 minutes). If you have your own boat, it is possible to launch it, for a fee, from the Port either by crane or ramp. Ask us for more details as to how to try to obtain a marina berth if this is important to you as in July and August they are not very easy to come by. Sailing yachts and motor boats can also be hired in the Port and nearby at Le Logeo but be prepared to produce your Certificate of Competence or be restricted to a small motor (this should not prevent you from exploring the Gulf). If you are sailors or windsurfers, or would like to try, you can do so from the beach. The beach is 100 paces away (by our reckoning we are the closest house to the beach in the resort!) though in fairness the boats are more like 300 paces away at the sailing club where it is possible to hire sailing boats, windsurfers with or without lessons. It is also possible to leave your own dinghy  close to the beach.

The top of the beach is some light coloured sand sometimes mixed with some fine shingle and sometimes separate from it depending on how the tides have pushed it around. Swimming is safe and the water is very clean. There is a children's beach club where it is possible to leave children under the age of ten years. There are tennis courts, crazy golf and a riding stable also a cafe further down the beach. A public golf course is a 5 minute drive (or 40 minute walk away). If you like scuba diving or think you might like to give it a try, there is a school with its own indoor training pool available in the Port.

There are wonderful walks and cycle rides in abundance and, of course, cycles can be hired.Cycle tracks are many.

The nearest bread shop is about 400 metres. The post office is in Arzon (about 900 metres from the house). The chemist is the same. There is a large supermarket (Intermarche) 1200 metres from the house where every morning it is possible to buy fresh seafood.  There are also stalls that sell pizza and paella to take away, or used to be. There are Doctors in the Port. The nearest hospital is in Vannes (30 kilometres). The town of Vannes has a beautiful medieval centre and is a lovely town. It is well worth a visit or two. On its outskirts is a Carrefour hypermarket with a MacDonald’s close by! Naturally there are countless reasonably priced cafes and restaurants as well.

Places also worth a visit are: Port Navalo, St Gildas, Sarzeau, Auray (St Goustan especially), go karts (out that way), Locmariaquer and Carnac for megaliths-take the Petit Train from the Carnac Megalith Centre and stop off at Trinite sur Mer and then after a restorative drink, meal or ice-cream and look around go back again and recover your car) and Quiberon. We also like going to see the exotic animals and flying display (birds!) at Branfere.

 

THE PROPERTY

The house is a pretty terraced stone house situated in a quiet, settled development very close to the main beach. The accommodation comprises  three double bedrooms:one with twin beds and pocket springs (can be a double as they are zip and link beds), one with a double bed, and a further one with twin beds (which can be turned into a double with sheets). A large sized family bathroom provides bath, W.C., bidet and basin. The ground floor consists of a good sized, double aspect living room with a spacious corner kitchen just off. The kitchen is well equipped with a fridge freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave and an electric oven and an electric ceramic hob with four heating spots and lots more that a French gite would not have. Off the main living room there is a separate  colourful and modern bathroom  with W.C. wash basin and shower. There is a small utility room with a washing machine. In the living room there is a colour TV and a DVD player .

To the rear we have a delightful, safe and secluded garden (a sun trap in the afternoon and early evening) with a gate leading onto the short path to the beach. The property has a pretty front garden (where you can also sit out and have breakfast in the sun) leading onto the pedestrianised walk ways through the development to the port.

There is a designated underground parking space for your sole use and “first come first served” additional outside parking spaces.

The development is situated on the edge of the Port with its boulangeries, chandleries, boutiques, restaurants and ice cream (and waffle) parlours. During the main summer weeks the local tourist office encourages a wide variety of street entertainers into the Port area during the evening and, of course, all the French love to promenade with their families after supper.  There is a weekly market around the Port and others in Arzon and Port Navalo.

Practicalities

The lettings in the summer are from Saturday after 2 p.m. to Saturday before 10 a.m. We take a deposit of £150 upon making the booking.  The full rental (in addition to the deposit) is paid eight weeks before the letting commences. If it is not, we reserve the right to cancel the booking and forfeit the deposit.  The deposit will normally be refunded less any damage or cleaning costs after the end of your holiday when you return the keys to us. Water is included in the rental as is electricity except out of season during the winter months. We ask you to replace any breakages with the nearest equivalent you can find and just to let us know when you return the keys. We operate a firm “No pets” rule.

You need to provide your own bed linen and towels and tea towels. There are single duvets, a couple of double duvets, blankets and pillows.  You are entitled to expect to find the property clean and tidy when you arrive. Please let us know if it is not. It is your responsibility to leave it clean and tidy for the next tenants.  We will post you a set of keys or otherwise arrange somewhere from where they may be collected by you. They must be returned to us at the end of your stay (unless we ask you to put them somewhere for collection by the next tenant)
