La Châtaigne is a 200 year old traditional Perigordian farmhouse that sleeps 14 people and is full of old beams, spiral staircases, traditional stone walls and large open fires. With its large terrace and exclusive 10x8m pool, it creates the perfect atmosphere for a holiday with family and friends.

The five bedrooms (for 12 people (8 adults, 4 children) plus babies under 2) plus a small dormitory with 2 beds, the large living room and the kitchen allow plenty of space for everyone. The kitchen opens directly onto a large terrace overlooking the fenced pool and part of our beautiful forest. Its south-western orientation ensures plenty of sun and night light making it a perfect place for al fresco dining.

A large farmhouse kitchen (40m2) has a bar and dining table. It is fully equipped with an electric oven, five gas hobs, dishwasher and fridge/freezer and a full selection of crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots and pans. There is a sitting area leading to the terrace for those seeking more shade and a toilet/sink nearby.

The large beamed lounge has comfortable sofas, satellite TV with DVD player, plenty of books and games and a large dining table. There are two inglenook fireplaces and doors leading to both the central courtyard and the private terrace.

Just off the lounge is a charming en-suite bedroom (with king size bed) with its own private entrance from the terrace. It is accessible without steps for people with reduced mobility. Separated by double doors, it is perfect for all party members looking for more peace and quiet.

First floor:
One large double bedroom.
One room with full size bunk beds. These two rooms share a separate bathroom and toilet and can be made into a family suite.

Twin room with en-suite shower and toilet.

Top floor:
A spacious, delightfully appointed, beamed loft offers charming family accommodation with a double bed and a separate area with twin beds suitable for children under 10. There is also an en-suite bathroom with shower and unusual low beams. For younger guests, there is a permanent stair guard on the stairs.

Outside:
A large terrace with gate, gas barbecue and dining furniture for 12.

A 10x8m pool with shallow and deep sections and steps into the water for easy access in a secluded south facing garden.

The pool is securely fenced with a self-closing, lockable gate.

Ample parking for several cars.

Communal games room (table tennis, darts, table football) in a separate barn, children's play area (swings, slide, badminton, football net, sandpit) and 7 hectares of land to explore.

Local Attractions

Dating from 1877, a former Dordogne farm, Les Taloches is set in 19 acres of woodland and meadows. Situated in Tourtoirac between Hautefort with its magnificent Chateau and Excideuil with its 11th century fortress and lively weekly market.

Set either side of a lime-tree shaded courtyard is La Châtaigne, an oak-beamed 18th century farmhouse and La Grange, a huge stone barn transformed into a superb house. Both houses are great for families and groups sleeping between 8 and 20 people (plus babies) and can be hired individually or together.

Tourtoirac is a pretty riverside village, central to which is the historic Saint-Pierre-es-Liens Abbey and the remains of the former Benedictine monastery from the Roman 12th and 13th century. Just 10 minutes walk away there is a bar / bistro on the river, a restaurant, a traditional boulangerie, a grocery shop, and a lovely river to paddle in. A 5 minutes drive away on the outskirts of the village are fascinating caves – La Grotte de Tourtoirac. Tourtoirac also hosts an annual week long music festival in August (genres ranging from classical, jazz and Celtic) and for keen cyclists the Lawrence of Arabia route goes through the village.
