Two 18th Century self catering cottages set in beautiful natural surroundings, ideally located between the historic port of La Rochelle, the fantastic city of Bordeaux, the Royan sandy beaches and the rolling countryside of the Cognac vines. Le Moulin Chaillou offers you 3 quality waterside cottages that have been recently renovated to a very high standard. Two of the cottages are attached to the 14th Century watermill. The properties are full of character and although modern equipped, have retained many of their original features such as their original Charentaise stone walls and huge oak beams. The third cottage is a large and spacious modern 3 bedroom bungalow that comfortably accommodates up to 8 people.
Le Moulin Chaillou is perfect for an enjoyable and relaxing break from the norm. Take pleasure in the sounds of the river Seugne, go walking around the numerous islands and explore the area. The towns of Saintes is to the north and Cognac to the east, both about 15 miles away. There are many fine sandy beaches in Royan, Meschers and Palmyer, which also boasts an outstanding zoo renowned for being the best in France. La Rochelle is a fabulous 11th century port which is now the biggest yachting centre on France’s Atlantic coast. Within a an hours drive north are the offshore islands of Ile de Ré and Oleron, and to the south, the city of Bordeaux
The Maison du grain de ble cottage has 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom and Sleeps 4 guests. A charming and very comfortable property that was formerly the grain store of the watermill and has retained many of its original features. The lower section of the split level ground floor that follows the position of the base of the old grain silos, comprises the dining room and kitchen, containing all modern appliances such as dishwasher and washing machine, whilst the upper level houses the lounge and shower room. Via the spiral staircase, there are two beautifully decorated bedrooms, that continue the character feel of the building. The bedrooms overlook the river Seugne, with on one side, the watermill, and on the other the medieval dungeon of Pons.
