This spacious and well-appointed apartment is situated on the quay of a lovely old deep-water port, with lots of restaurants, shops and more within walking distance. The views are spectacular as is the positioning. The apartment is the entire second floor of an old building. The listed facade of the building, completely refurbished and repainted in March 2007, is one of the most photographed sights in Port-Vendres.
Unusually for a second-floor flat there is a large 20m2 terrace at the back reached by a short raised walkway! On the terrace are a table and chairs as well as a small barbecue.
The Apartment Comprises:
There are three double bedrooms - the master one with a dressing room and en-suite shower room, including a toilet, with a French (of course) window overlooking the quay. The other two bedrooms are situated at the back of the flat; one has a double bed and is equipped with an en-suite shower room, including toilet. The other bedroom has twin beds and a shower and washbasin, but no toilet. There is a separate toilet off the entrance hall
All the bedrooms have reversible air-conditioning (hot for winter; cold for summer). Each bedroom has colours which are reflected in the bathrooms, the lights, the soft furnishings, and the decorations. The master bedroom has fittings of a turquoise blue which echoes the decorative tiles on the facade of the building, while the other two use a darker blue and yellow respectively in the same way.
The study is situated between the two rear bedrooms and is separated from the entrance hall by a curtain. It has a "clic-clac" sofa - convertible into a double bed, for occasional adult use or for children. There is a door from the study to a walkway leading behind the flat to the terrace.
The large (35 square metres), air-conditioned lounge/dining room has two French windows overlooking the quay, and incorporates a fully-equipped kitchen - oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, etc. The dining table has seating for 8.
In the lounge is a television and DVD/CD/Radio system, two three-seater sofas, easy chairs, pouffes, a coffee table and bookcase, with a "wood-effect" electric fire to brighten those occasional grey days.
We have broadband WiFi Internet access, digital television (Sky News, CNN News etc, as well as French channels). The telephone provides free calls to landline telephones in all countries of the European Union and a number of other countries worldwide, including Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
The utility room houses the immersion heater and a sink, and also contains a freezer, washing machine, tumble drier, iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner. For those holidaying with very young children, the apartment has a collapsible travel cot and a baby bath.
The Surrounding Area
Port-Vendres is one of the few deep water ports in the French Mediterranean, and this has formed its history for thousands of years. It is a major fishing port for this coast, with all sizes of boats from one-man skiffs to cruise liners and large trawlers. As a result the restaurants around the harbour specialise in fresh fish.
There are small, cove beaches nearby, as well as great sandy beaches stretching around the Mediterranean from Argeles sur Mer, Canet Plage and St Cyprien which also has an Aqualand water amusement park for children.
Collioure is a very attractive French port 3 kilometres north of Port-Vendres - it is very busy in the summer, mainly with French visitors, while just south is the first marine nature reserve in France.
For golfers there is a good course nearby at St. Cyprien and one in a stunning mountain location about an hour's drive away at Domaine de Falgos.
