Le Murier is named for the lovely Murier Platane tree which dominates the entrance and parking area for the villa. It is Henry IV of France (1553-1610) who imposed on the farmers of Provence to plant Murier trees to raise silkworms, and you will still find many of the original trees here. The attractive grounds are anchored by a pool and several inviting terraces.
This 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom villa with spacious living room, large kitchen, and family room offers guests a relaxing holiday in a quiet, rural setting - a little paradise for adventurous, imaginative children who like to explore - which is also very close to Lourmarin (walking from the house along a small path called St André, you will be in the village within 12 minutes).
The house can accommodate up to 10 people. It has a spacious living room with three French doors, making it bright yet cool in the Provence summer.
Guests can swim or sit by the pool or on a south-facing terrace with a glass of rosé and enjoy the full sunshine and balmy weather of Provence. There are two outdoor dining areas, one facing the pool and garden, the other covered as well, adjacent to the petanques court.
The entrance, living room, dining room, dining area, two bedrooms, separate TV room and large outside terrace are at ground level, while the kitchen is one level down. Move up a level from ground, to access two of the en-suite bedrooms.
Four of the bedrooms have two beds which can be used as twins or combined to make a king-sized bed. In addition, there is a comfortable, independent studio with a queen-sized bed, which is available if needed.
All five bathrooms are modern, with tiled floors and showers; one bathroom has a tub/shower. Four of the bathrooms are en-suite, one is adjacent to the 5th bedroom. There are hair dryers in each bathroom.
The kitchen is bright and very well equipped with microwave, dishwasher, induction stove top, oven and an American fridge with ice-maker. There is an island for food prep or dining.
Other amenities/facilities include a barbecue, private pool, parking, garden, ironing board, iron, washing machine and tumble dryer. All linens and towels, including pool towels, are provided. Linens are changed weekly with maid service or on the changeover date.
There is wifi access throughout the property, with TV (UK and US channels).
Perhaps the greatest asset of the villa is its location in Provence - it's very central. The property is just a 12-minute walk from the picturesque town of Lourmarin, which is known as the cultural hub of the Luberon and said to have the best weekly market in the area.
From Lourmarin it is possible to explore several natural parks like Les Alpilles (in St-Rémy), La Camargue with its wild horses (in Sainte-Marie-De-La Mer), and the Gorges du Verdon park, one of the most beautiful canyon in France. All are only an hour or 90 minutes' drive from Lourmarin.
Other picturesque pillages within a few minutes’ drive include Cucuron, Ansouis and Vaugine. Aix-en-Provence is less than 30 minutes away and the Aix TGV station and Marseilles Marignan Airport are within an hour’s drive.
