Local Attractions

There's so much to see and do, it's hard to know where to begin. Have fun planning your holiday in Normandy.

Links to all the tourist websites - from Normandy, Haute Normandie, Seine Maritime, Dieppe, Rouen and all the wonderful places nearby with tourist offices - can be found on the Tourism Links page. This is a voyage of discovery in itself.

If you are visiting with children or elderly parents, you may like to look at Young & Younger for inspiration. And don't despair if the weather's not so good, simply have a look at the Wet & Dry page - there's plenty of indoor activity in the region.

Below are some headings to tempt you further:

Walking and Cycling: The Avenue Verte is a converted old railway line, which makes an easy route for families, beginners at cycling, walkers who don't like hills, even roller bladers.

The Véloroute du Littoral de la Côte d'Albâtre runs all the way from Le Havre to Le Tréport, and is for more expert cyclists. Also, have a look at these walks and rides near the coast.

You can walk or cycle out from either house straight onto cycle routes. Wherever you go you will find places to stop for a walk; there is also a lot of information on the sites on the Tourism Links page.

This site is good if you would like to be more informed about footpath signage when hiking, and here are 11 graded walks and 2 drives.

Other Activities:

Golf.

Sea fishing or boat trips along the coast.

Horse riding.

Fishing.

Karting.

Bowling.

Swimming (note - swimming shorts are not allowed).

Parachuting.

Casino.

A day at the races.

Kite Festival (every two years in September).

Mini-golf at Dieppe and many other places nearby.

Lac de Caniel.

Museums: We love this website about museums in Upper Normandy, which includes the Clock Museum at St Nicolas d'Aliermont.

Châteaux in Seine Maritime:

Ruined castle at Arques la Bataille.

Dieppe Castle Museum.

Château de Martainville.

Château de Mirosmesnil.

Château de Beaumesnil.

Château at Eu.

Chateau de Bosmelet.

Château Gaillard at Les Andelys, the stronghold of Richard the Lionheart.

Gardens: Monet's house and gardens are at Giverny, about an hour and a half from either house. For more gardens, see Wet & Dry.

Abbeys and the Seine Valley:

Jumièges.

St Wandrille.

Bec-Hellouin.

Fontaine-Guérard.

Saint-Georges de Boscherville.
