Le Raby comprises four individual gites, set within an attractive walled courtyard and all guests have access to a screened, heated pool (May - October weather permitting), with plenty of space for relaxing in the Charente’s famous sunshine or taking it easy in the shade.
Le Raby is unsuitable for young children or pets so guests must be 16 or over.
Each of the four gites has its own character and style and has been furnished to a high standard with care to preserve the property’s original features and traditional appearance, while also affording the comfort, privacy and convenience of a modern home.
LE PRESSOIR is the largest of the 1-bedroomed gites, with a view down the courtyard to the pool. Le Pressoir is attached to Le Chai but remains entirely private. It has a large ground-floor open-plan living room, kitchen and dining area with patio doors that open onto the courtyard. A spiral staircase leads to the large bedroom with an en-suite shower room and walk-in wardrobe. Le Pressoir sleeps 1 or 2 guests.
To ensure you have a comfortable stay, each gite contains:
A welcome pack
A fully equipped kitchen including “Ottoni Fabbrica” electric kettle; “Nespresso” coffee machine; induction hob; electric oven and fridge/freezer
A shower room
Hairdryer
An electric towel warmer
Bath, hand and pool towels
King-size bed; Le Chai also has two large single beds
“Silentnight 1850” premier pocket sprung 30 cm deep mattresses
Duvets and pillows from “the Duvet Store” in Scotland, hand-filled with “Dacron Comforel” hollowfibre
An electric fan
T.V. with UK channels
3G/4G internet access
BBQ
Outdoor table and chairs
Electric radiators and/or flame effect fire
Combined smoke and carbon monoxide alarm
There is also a communal laundry room containing a Miele washing machine and tumble drier; iron and ironing board; hoover, mops and cleaning equipment.
The 11 x 3 metre pool is available from May to October (weather permitting) and is for the exclusive use of guests in the gites. It receives the sun all day through to sunset, but is heated as needed to maintain a minimum temperature. Sunbeds are provided and various chairs and tables are dotted around the courtyard. There is an undercover au-vent seating and dining area and a pool shower and toilet.
You also have use of a boules/pétanque court and a giant-sized chess set, which you’ll find in the centre of the courtyard. And if you fancy venturing out, bicycles are available for a leisurely ride along the neighbouring country lanes.
Le Raby is situated in the commune of Bouteville within the Charente département of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of South West France.
We are in the centre of the Grande Champagne area of cognac production and the countryside is typically vineyards, with fields of sunflowers in the summer.
Le Raby is between the villages of Chateauneuf-sur-Charente and Saint-Même-les-Carrières. We’re a 20-minute drive from Jarnac and Cognac and 30 minutes from Angoulême. Although we are deep in the countryside and surrounded by vineyards we’re less than a 15 minute drive from shops, boulangeries, restaurants, supermarkets, banks, markets and petrol stations.
There are over 200 Cognac producers in the region and a visit to one of them is a must. But there is so much more to explore – from the local towns of Cognac and Jarnac to the lovely city of Angoulême… picturesque medieval villages such as Verteuil-sur-Charente (offering the best brioche in the world according to chef James Martin) and Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (with its underground church)… the Atlantic coast and the islands … and not forgetting beautiful Saint Emilion and the city of Bordeaux.
Gite Le Pressoir is a fantastic holiday cottage in the heart of the Charente region. Le Raby provides the ideal base to explore the region.
