Local Attractions

Markets:
Our local village, Saint Pardoux Corbier, hosts a market each Wednesday evening (1700 – 2300) during July and August. There are stalls selling local produce (Limousin beef/meat/sausages, bread, trout, vegetables, salad, wine, jam/honey, fruit etc) which can be purchased and eaten at the long tables provided. Large barbecues are available for everyone to use so you can cook your steak just how you like it! There is also a bar selling reasonably priced drinks, a crêperie and a place to buy hot chips to go with your steak. A variety of local bands provide live music.

Objat (25 – 30 minutes south) market is held every Sunday morning. There are stalls selling everything from tablecloths to live geese and jewellery to horse meat! There is more of a selection of stalls during the summer months but it is still fairly busy throughout the winter.

Lubersac has a local producers market every Friday afternoon, it’s not always very big (between 5 and fifteen stalls depending on the time of year and the weather!) but the produce is very good quality.

Events:
14th July: France’s national day is celebrated in style in Pompadour (less than a ten minute drive from here). Each year crowds gather on the race course in front of the chateau to watch a spectacular firework display set to music; entry is free.

Horses: the National Stud at Pompadour holds numerous show jumping/cross country and dressage events throughout the summer months as well as racing every Sunday afternoon on the impressive course in the centre of town.

Jazz: the medieval town of Segur Le Chateau (classed as one of France’s ‘Most Beautiful Villages’) hold an annual jazz festival each July; dates vary

Classic/Opera: St Robert (also classed as one of France’s ‘Most Beautiful Villages’) has performances of classical music in and around the village throughout July and August. ‘Festival de La Vezere’ has classical music and opera performed in local churches in July and August.

Fruit: local production of strawberries is celebrated in Beaulieu Sur Dordogne in June and raspberries in Conceze in July; both events involve lots of eating!

Local Activites:
Horse riding: there are lots of riding schools in this area, the closest being in Saint Martin Sepert (05 55 73 59 05) and Pompadour (05 55 73 32 70).

Canoe/Kayak/Rafting: Uzerche is a the closest centre for exploring the Vezere river (05 55 73 02 84) but there are also centres from which you can canoe down the Dordogne at Argentat and Beaulieu Sur Dordogne about an hour away.

Walking: there are lots of tracks, and the lake, in and around Saint Pardoux Corbier to explore. Lubersac, Pompadour and Segur Le Chateau have numerous marked walking routes, maps are available from the respective tourist offices.

Karting: only 2 Kms away from us this centre is very professional, its rates are similar to the UK (05 55 73 96 22, 06 82 19 74 23); there is also mini golf and paintballing on the same site.

Hot Air Balloons: the closest flights take off from Pompadour and offer superb views of the Correzien countryside: available all year (06 83 43 36 01).

Golf: there are golf courses in Limoges and Brive; they’re both about a 40 minute drive.

Bikes: we have bikes for hire.

Local Historic Sites:

Pompadour: chateau and national stud buildings.
Segur Le Chateau: medieval village with castle ruin.
Hautefort: magnificent chateau with gardens.
Coussac Bonneval: chateau
Lubersac: château, church.
Uzerche: medieval old town.
Collanges La Rouge: classed as one of France’s ‘Most Beautiful Villages’ it is constructed in pink stone.
Turenne: another of France’s ‘Most Beautiful Villages’.

At around an hour or more south of us there are all of the southern Dordogne’s top attractions including Rocamadour and the caves at Lascaux. Towards Limoges there is the village/museum of Oradour, scene of a massacre by the German army during the Second World War occupation, the village has been preserved as it was as a memorial to the victims.
